Hello Parents! Welcome as we embark on The Journey to Candy Castle. Each day we will be learning about God’s sovereignty and strength though the life of Joshua. For your convenience, we’ve abbreviated our days' activities in hopes that you will use them as discussion starters for conversations with your kids.

MONDAY

In our Teaching Room, kids will learn about Joshua, who was told to be “strong and courageous” in the Lord. Fear of God causes the fear of man to disappear. Today, Joshua encounters Jericho for the first time and sees the high, protective walls.

In our Missions/Craft Room, we will learn about why missionaries tell about Jesus by becoming missionaries ourselves. Today, kids will learn about the problem of sin. They will make a craft to use in telling unbelievers about the problem of sin and how it separates us from God. Kids will be encouraged to practice this with their parents.

In our Skit, kids will be introduced to The Journey to Candy Castle. The Duke of Swirl, his wife Lady Lolly, daughter Baby Ruth, and the nannies, Kit and Kat, are trying to get back to their castle before the evil Lord Licorice and his side kick, Spidora, capture it. This evil duo tries to foil the royal family’s progress by cheating. Today, the Duke of Swirl must go through the Gauntlet of Snickers for the family to advance to the castle. Facing his fear, the Duke must choose to be strong and courageous.

During our snack time, we have Spiritual Snacks. Each day we will discuss part of our Bible memory verse: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9. Today, kids and leaders will get to know each other and discuss what command, strong, and courageous mean.

Every day we have Recreation on the grass: music, water, games, relays, and all sorts of fun to get the children moving and laughing.

TUESDAY

In our Teaching Room, we will learn about faith. Faith believes God even when what He commands seems unbelievable–like blowing horns to bring down a wall or trusting a crucified King (Joshua 6). Kids will watch as God saves Rahab while the walls of Jericho come tumbling down.

In our Missions/Craft Room, we will learn that the problem of sin has an answer: Jesus Christ. Kids will make a craft to explain that sins separates us from God, and Jesus’ sacrifice reunites us to God. Kids will be encouraged to share with their parents the answer to the sin problem as they practice how to share the gospel message like missionaries.

In our Skit, kids will watch as the royal family members continue their journey to make it back to Candy Castle before the evil Lord Licorice and Spidora get there. The children will watch as Lady Lolly faces her fear of the darkness.

During our snack time, we have Spiritual Snacks. Each day during snack time kids will discuss part of our Bible memory verse, Joshua 1:9. Today, kids and leaders will discuss fear and the things Joshua and Rahab could have been afraid of. We will discuss our fears and how God protects and leads His people.

Every day we have Recreation on the grass: music, water, games, relays, and all sorts of fun to get the children moving and laughing.

WEDNESDAY

In our Teaching Room, we will learn about forgiveness. God forgave Rahab and welcomed her into Israel. God forgives His people when they sin, AND He forgives His enemies if they fear Him and place their faith in Him (Joshua 9).

In our Missions/Craft Room on Monday and Tuesday, kids learned what a missionary is (tells people about Jesus), what our problem is (sin), and how Jesus took our sins on the cross. Today, they will make a craft that they will be able to share with a parent-approved friend to tell them about the Gospel.

In our Skit, kids will watch as the royal family continues the journey toward the castle. Today, Kat must face her fear of spiders. The evil Lord Licorice and Spidora hatch a plan to stop Kat from advancing with the family.

During our snack time, we have Spiritual Snacks. Each day during snack time kids will discuss part of our Bible memory verse, Joshua 1:9. Today, kids will talk about the attributes of God.

THURSDAY

In our Teaching Room, we will learn about being fearlessWhen we fear God (Monday) and place faith (Tuesday) in the God who forgives (Wednesday) we can live fearlessly knowing that God protects those who obey Him (Joshua 10).

In our Missions/Craft Room on Monday and Tuesday, kids learned what a missionary is (tells people about Jesus), what our problem is (sin), and how Jesus took our sins on the cross. Yesterday, they made a craft that showed that Jesus is the answer to our sin problem. Today, they will make a special craft to learn about how prayer is essential to missions.

In our Skit, kids will see Kat stuck in a giant spiderweb with Spidora approaching. Lord Licorice and Spidora think they may have won the game. Will the royal family ever make it back to the castle?

During our snack time, we have Spiritual Snacks. Each day during snack time kids will discuss part of our Bible memory verse, Joshua 1:9. Today, kids will talk about Joshua and God’s faithfulness.

FRIDAY

In our Teaching Room, we will learn about God’s faithfulness. Even if we fail, God remains faithful. This truth makes us want to be more faithful to God, never forgetting how good He is (Joshua 23-24).

In our Missions/Craft Room our young missionaries are on furlough. They have learned what it means to be a missionary and today they will decorate a special frame with a picture of their fellow missionary team.

In our Skit, the royal family members learn that they must trust God with their future as they finally make it to Candy Castle. The Duke learns that to be a leader, he must sometimes make difficult decisions. Lady Lolly learns that God is with her, even in the dark. Kit learns that his sister is important. Kat learns that her brother loves her and spiders are not all bad.

During our snack time, we have Spiritual Snacks. Today kids will say the full memory verse together. They will be encouraged to talk about what they learned at VBS.
