Tell a story about a time someone did something to you that made you pretty upset. In fact, you may have actually been really mad about what that person did. Help the younger ones to share a story.
Now, I want you to be honest. I want you to tell a story about a time you did something that probably made someone else pretty upset or even mad. Again, help the younger ones to share a story.
Today’s Bible story is kind of different from our last two stories. This story focuses on being RESCUED, but it is more about the
mercy
God shows us when RESCUING us.
Take 10 – 15 minutes and google the word
mercy
and then write the definition on a piece of paper and post / tape it to a wall or door or something you won’t damage. Turn this into a miniature art project. Make it look nice so you can leave it hanging in your room or somewhere for a long time (adjust accordingly to age).
Now, each person starting with the adult tell a story about something mean you may have done to someone else, but someone showed you mercy. Now, have each child share a story where someone showed them mercy. Guide and help them a bunch on this activity.
Next, share a story where you showed mercy towards someone that may have done something mean or bad to you. Now have each child share a story as well.
Take a minute and discuss the different feelings you experience when you showed mercy for someone else vs. someone else showing mercy to you.
Do you feel better when you receive mercy or give mercy? Does each experience make you feel good? Explain your answer.
