This Weeks Theme for VBS:
Day 1
The Fiery Furnace
(Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego)
What do you think when you hear the word RESCUE?

Have you ever seen someone get RESCUED?

(Take some time and explain that the word RESCUE can be physical, emotional, spiritual, etc.)

Each person will tell a story (starting with the adult leader) about a time they felt someone RESCUED them and then about a time they felt they RESCUED someone else. Adjust this activity according to age if needed.

RESCUE Song / Words
(watch several times to learn words/ will play each day
So, this week during all 4 lessons, we will be learning about stories of Bible characters who had amazing faith and love towards God. In each story some mean and evil people try to punish these wonderful followers of Christ in different ways. Luckily, they had amazing faith in God and were RESCUED from the evil people by God. As we go through VBS this week be sure to remember that when we have hard and difficult days, that we should keep our faith with God and he too will RESCUE us.
Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego
Today’s Bible Story is about three guys named Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. On a phone or iPad google how to pronounce these names and then practice saying them.

Do you know anything about Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego? Write down on a piece of paper anything you think you might know about these three people. Write anything you can think of, even if it is a guess.

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were told by King Nebuchadnezzar (who was an evil king) to worship a false god.

What do you think it means to worship a false god?

Well, King Nebuchadnezzar told Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego to worship a god made out of gold. The king told them they were not allowed to worship their own God, the one true powerful and almighty God.

Do you have any idea what King Nebuchadnezzar said he would do to people that didn’t worship his false god?

How would you feel if someone told you that you couldn’t pray, or go to church, or read your Bible? Would you be angry? Would you do what they told you to do?

Would you stop worshipping God if someone told you they would hurt you if you worshiped your true God?

Let’s watch a video that tells us about the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. After the movie we are going to talk about it, so make sure you are listening really well.

Video of the Day- Superbook -
The Fiery Furnace! - Season 2 Episode 3

You can also watch on your regular TV
if you have YouTube on the TV

Tell me something that jumped out at you while watching the movie? Maybe something funny, or sad, or adventurous, etc.

What did King Nebuchadnezzar tell the people they must do?

How do you think Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego felt when they were threatened to be put into a fiery pit if they didn’t worship this false god?

How do you think Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego felt when they were actually inside the fiery pit?
Snack Time
This snack is awesome. The only adjustment I would make is to try to stand up the 4 “people.”
Graham cracker, chocolate bar, marshmallows, 4 graham bears?
Pop in the oven. Keep a close eye on it so it doesn’t burn.
While the kids are eating their snack, you can read today’s Bible lesson. They will especially enjoy hearing you read it after watching the video and having some elaborate discussions already.
Bible Lesson

Daniel 3: 1 – 30 (This is an amazing story / read with lots of animation)

Go back and read verses 5 & 6. How would you feel every day at school if you had to do this?

How many people were actually in the fire? Go back and read verses 24 & 25. Who do you think was the 4 th person in the fire?

This week’s theme is the word “RESCUE.” Explain how today’s story ties into the word “RESCUE.”
