WPS Volunteer Awards
2019 WPS Volunteer Award nominations are now open!
The Volunteer Center of Brown County is pleased to once again host the community's largest event recognizing the impact that volunteers have on our community! Made possible by event sponsor Wisconsin Public Service, along with the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation and our eight generous award sponsors – Aon, Bellin Health, Constellation, The George F. Kress Foundation, Georgia Pacific, Green Bay Packers Give Back, Morgan Stanley and United Healthcare – this event celebrates volunteers and highlights the work they do to assist nonprofits in our area to fulfill their missions.

Why take the time to submit a nomination?
It’s a powerful way to honor the impact that a person or group is having in the community! Each individual nominee and two representatives of group nominations will be our guests at the Awards Breakfast, which will take place on  Thursday, April 18, 2019 , at the KI Convention Center. All nominees will be recognized at the event.

Recipients of the awards and runners-up will receive cash prizes of  $1,000  and  $500  respectively that they can donate to the nonprofit organization of their choice. The youth recipient and runner-up will receive the award amounts as scholarships.
Submitting a nomination creates greater awareness within our community of the organization where the volunteer gives their time and energy.

The nominee may also be selected by the Volunteer Center as the “Volunteer of the Week” (which runs weekly in the  Press-Gazette ) or submitted for regional and state awards following the event.

Volunteer of the Week
Jodie Schenk   is our Volunteer of the Week!

Jodie Schenk has been volunteering with Happily Ever After Animal Sanctuary (HEA) since late 2017 and has continued to go above and beyond since she started. Jodie is a creative thinker, a hard-worker, and is always willing to lend a hand. Every Wednesday, Jodie volunteers at HEA’s Adoption Center to take care of the dogs and train new volunteers. She is easy-going, friendly, and a great teacher. It’s clear how much she loves every dog that comes to the Adoption Center. Along with her weekly dog-care shift, Jodie helped to plan HEA’s ‘Steps for Pets’ walk in 2018. She’s already signed up to continue that role in 2019.

Jodie is a teacher at Parkview Middle School. She has found a unique way to combine her passion for HEA with her love of teaching kids. Jodie recently formed the HEA Kid’s Pack, an after-school club where students learn about Happily Ever After and its mission. When the club started in September, 30 students signed up. Today, the club has nearly 100 student members! According to Jodie, “Our mission with the HEA Kids Pack is to provide experiences that promote: respect and kindness to all companion animals, information and tools that reflect respectful and responsible treatment of all companion animals, and service opportunities for students to connect with the mission of HEA.”

The Pack has helped HEA in many ways. They made dog treats and handed them out at the Ashwaubenon Homecoming parade, along with information on HEA. They also helped fold newsletters and organized a supply drive at school in which they collected more than 2,000 pounds of supplies. Jodie’s Kids Pack is a great example of HEA’s pillar of education and serves as an inspiration for future educational projects.

In addition to being a committed volunteer, Jodie is a donor to HEA and also an adopter! In March of 2018, Jodie adopted Archie (fka Noah) and gave him his very own happily ever after. “We’re very fortunate to have volunteers with the most amazing hearts. When someone is willing to share their passion like this, you just kind of get out of the way and let it happen. The impact speaks for itself. The animals are better off because of Jodie,” concludes Amanda Reitz, HEA Founder.

Thank you, Jodie, for your dedication to HEA!
