2019 WPS Volunteer Award nominations are now open!
|
The Volunteer Center of Brown County is pleased to once again host the community's largest event recognizing the impact that volunteers have on our community! Made possible by event sponsor Wisconsin Public Service, along with the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation and our eight generous award sponsors – Aon, Bellin Health, Constellation, The George F. Kress Foundation, Georgia Pacific, Green Bay Packers Give Back, Morgan Stanley and United Healthcare – this event celebrates volunteers and highlights the work they do to assist nonprofits in our area to fulfill their missions.
Why take the time to submit a nomination?
It’s a powerful way to honor the impact that a person or group is having in the community! Each individual nominee and two representatives of group nominations will be our guests at the Awards Breakfast, which will take place on
Thursday, April 18, 2019
, at the KI Convention Center. All nominees will be recognized at the event.
Recipients of the awards and runners-up will receive cash prizes of
$1,000
and
$500
respectively that they can donate to the nonprofit organization of their choice. The youth recipient and runner-up will receive the award amounts as scholarships.
Submitting a nomination creates greater awareness within our community of the organization where the volunteer gives their time and energy.
The deadline for nominations is
March 1, 2019
.
The nominee may also be selected by the Volunteer Center as the “Volunteer of the Week” (which runs weekly in the
Press-Gazette
) or submitted for regional and state awards following the event.

Cheryl Wojkiewicz is our Volunteer of the Week!
Cheryl Wojkiewicz has been the volunteer custodian for the Volunteer Center since the summer of 2017. She spends 2 to 3 hours cleaning the Volunteer Center each Wednesday. Cheryl has done a fantastic job as the Volunteer Center custodian. Often times, the staff does not have the time to be able to focus on these tasks, and Cheryl is able to address them in her time here, each week. We have all developed a relationship with Cheryl and she is a welcomed sight in the office. Cheryl is a self-starter and does not require much instruction as she follows through on everything. In fact, she will go out of her way and "off script" if she feels other things need to be done.
With Cheryl's help, the staff is able to focus on other things and devote our time to programming and working with other nonprofits. We pride ourselves in having a comfortable space for volunteers and guests to walk into, and Cheryl is a huge part of that. Cheryl makes sure she is giving %\100% each time she volunteers, as she focuses on her tasks. While we don't know much about Cheryl's background, we do know she has had some hardships in her life, and she keeps pushing forward despite those hardships. She is always smiling and positive, and always has stories to share.
Cheryl is also a volunteer at Howe Community Resource Center and their staff have shared with us that Cheryl is going above and beyond in her volunteer role at their Center. We have been very blessed at the Volunteer Center to have Cheryl become a part of our family. Cheryl really has done a fantastic job for us, and the staff in the office have taken to helping her with personal things, inviting her along to events, and in general just being someone to talk to. We know Cheryl appreciates that and it helps her continue to volunteer for our organization. We appreciate the work she has done and the time she has given to our organization.
Thank you, Cheryl, for going above and beyond while volunteering at the Volunteer Center!
