Volunteer of the Week
Kathy Sliwka is our Volunteer of the Week!

Kathy Sliwka has been an active volunteer for the Volunteer Center of Brown County for 8 years. Kathy is a board member and is a committed partner of the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). RSVP is a federally funded program for volunteers 55+. Kathy actively participates not only with the Volunteer Center board, but she is also a member of the RSVP Advisory Council. The Advisory Council is the “guiding force” of RSVP, providing support and knowledge to RSVP staff, gaining community support for the program, suggesting ideas for volunteer recruitment, and assisting in the planning and implementation of our annual RSVP recognition event.

Besides supporting the Volunteer Center board and RSVP, Kathy has been an integral part of several Volunteer Center programs. Kathy has been a Reading Coach for Kids and tutored children in kindergarten through fifth grade to improve their reading abilities and school success. As a volunteer for our Veteran Support Services program, Kathy completed mock interviews with veterans looking to return to the workforce. Since 2013, Kathy has coordinated our neighborhood Volunteer Connection/Make a Difference Day. This national day of service matches volunteers with seniors and those with disabilities who need help with yard work, washing lower level windows and putting away seasonal furniture. Kathy freely provides support, enthusiasm and a spirit to the Volunteer Center that we can accomplish anything. She is available to bounce new ideas off of, and is the first one to volunteer whenever a call goes out for help, often before we even ask!

Outside of her many Volunteer Center activities, Kathy has been a blood donor for the Red Cross and an English language tutor through Literacy Green Bay. Kathy has a strong sense of community and has a heart for improving the lives of others.

The Volunteer Center greatly values all the ways Kathy gives of her time and energy and she makes it a lot of fun in the process! Kathy was nominated for and is one of the recipients of the 2018 Green Bay Packers Give Back Award. On November 6, 2018 Kathy was recognized, along with 9 other exceptional volunteers from across the state, at a luncheon at Lambeau Field. Each recipient received $2,000 for the nonprofit that nominated them for the award.

Thank you, Kathy, for your dedication to the Volunteer Center of Brown County!
