WPS Volunteer Awards Nomination
2019 WPS Volunteer Award
nomination deadline is Friday!
The Volunteer Center of Brown County is pleased to once again host the community's largest event recognizing the impact that volunteers have on our community! Made possible by event sponsor Wisconsin Public Service, along with the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation and our eight generous award sponsors – Aon, Bellin Health, Constellation, The George F. Kress Foundation, Georgia Pacific, Green Bay Packers Give Back, Morgan Stanley and United Healthcare – this event celebrates volunteers and highlights the work they do to assist nonprofits in our area to fulfill their missions.

Why take the time to submit a nomination?
It’s a powerful way to honor the impact that a person or group is having in the community! Each individual nominee and two representatives of group nominations will be our guests at the Awards Breakfast, which will take place on  Thursday, April 18, 2019 , at the KI Convention Center. All nominees will be recognized at the event.

Recipients of the awards and runners-up will receive cash prizes of  $1,000  and  $500  respectively that they can donate to the nonprofit organization of their choice. The youth recipient and runner-up will receive the award amounts as scholarships.
Submitting a nomination creates greater awareness within our community of the organization where the volunteer gives their time and energy. The deadline for nominations is  March 1, 2019 .

The nominee may also be selected by the Volunteer Center as the “Volunteer of the Week” (which runs weekly in the  Press-Gazette ) or submitted for regional and state awards following the event.

Volunteer of the Week
Diana Smet is our Volunteer of the Week!

Evergreen Productions is a community-based theater organization that is volunteer run. Evergreen produces 5 young actor productions, each year, three at St. Norbert College and 2 at the Brown County Library. Evergreen provides opportunities for young actors to act, work backstage and create sets/costumes/props/makeup designs. Theater allows young people to express themselves, make friends, and gain confidence that will help them as they mature and enter college and/or the workforce.

Diana Smet is the lead hair and makeup assistant for Evergreen's young actor productions. She is responsible for training others in the application of makeup and/or designs of hair, responsible for ensuring the proper supplies are on hand and responsible for the ongoing care of the supplies. Diana is often the only skilled person assisting with the hair and makeup for a production. She often is working with peers and/or young children. Diana is an ongoing volunteer. She participates during the 'tech' week of a production. She will be at the theater each night of rehearsals and performances, generally arriving before the cast and leaving after she has everyone ready for the production and the area cleaned and ready for the next day. Diana volunteers approximately 15-20 hours per production, which is about 100 hours for the five young actor productions a year.

Diana leads by example. She is a senior in high school, but her mindset and work ethic are far above that level. The hair and makeup designs for a production are the icing on the cake - they add the element of reality or fantasy that each production uniquely needs. Without hair and makeup the characters are flat. Diana's skill and dedication allow the young actors to enter the stage confident in the 'character' they have become for the production. Volunteers in general are difficult to find - particularly ones that can dedicate every night for a full 8 days to a production. Diana is always there, ready to help and provide that consistency of process and skill of application and design to ensure that the audience that sees a production on closing night has the same experience that the audience had on opening night.

Thank you, Diana, for leading by example!
