The Rehabilitation Program at the Wildlife Sanctuary (R-PAWS) Volunteers are our Volunteers of the Week!
The Rehabilitation Program at the Wildlife Sanctuary (
R-PAWS) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the community of Northeast Wisconsin regarding wildlife related issues. R-PAWS was formally started in 1986, but wildlife rehab has been going on at the Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary the entire 83 years of its existence. R-PAWS admits all orphaned and injured native Wisconsin wildlife with the goal of returning them to the wild.
The dedicated group of R-PAWS volunteers gives of their time to train on how to raise young animals who were abandoned or kidnapped, help injured animals heal and regain skills, how to identify illness, and how to give immediate aid to help these animals become healthy again. Once the animals are out of the woods and on the road to recovery, the volunteers work together to help the animals relearn or strengthen the skills needed to be released successfully back into the wild. As R-PAWS members, volunteers give 24 hours a day when an animal is in their home to provide proper nutrition, enrichment, housing and care to these animals until they can be wild again. The volunteers also go to frequent training sessions and conferences, year-round, to ensure they are providing the very best care for the animals they care for. There is no off-season. Since 1986, R-PAWS has admitted over 102,000 animals into their care. Without R-PAWS, many of these animals would be left to die and the volunteers will do everything they can to help an animal be successfully returned to the wild.
Thank you, R-PAWS volunteers, for coming together to help our wildlife!
