Bill Henderson is our Volunteer of the Week!
Mosaic Arts is a nonprofit organization that advances the arts in the Greater Green Bay area. Mosaic was formed in 2013 from the Northeastern Wisconsin Arts Council and Arts Events Inc., two sister organizations that merged in order to create a larger impact in the community. The organization has history with presenting a few events, such as Bayfest, Savour Green Bay, Artstreet and Arti Gras in addition to programming with public art grants and scholarships. Mosaic supports artists, arts and culture organizations, and fosters arts education. The key events that Mosaic currently produces are Arti Gras and Artstreet. Arti Gras has an annual attendance of over 7,000 people over a three-day span and uses over 300 volunteers to help execute the fine arts festival. Both events celebrate the arts and provide access to the arts for the community.
Bill Henderson started as a shift volunteer for events and eventually became a part of the events committee to help develop and execute each event. Bill has been a part of the Mosaic family for over 15 years and provides ongoing support to the organization year-round. Previously, Bill has used his PTO hours from his work to attend monthly meetings. He has even taken vacation the weeks of Arti Gras and Artstreet to help prepare for the event. Bill also volunteers the entirety of each event, from setup to tear-down. He is a vital piece of the team when it comes to executing Arti Gras and Artstreet. Bill develops and fosters positive relationships with exhibiting artists and vendors at these large-scale events, has a backpack of supplies that has just about anything and everything you can think of and dives into any task that is needed to be done, from rinsing and sanitizing food grade hoses to helping kids create crafts in the kids area. He also administers artist awards, erects scaffolding, trains other volunteers, and directs vendor traffic to ensure a safe and efficient loading - he is a man of all trades.
With Bill's involvement in the operations of Arti Gras and Artstreet and the relationships that he carries with exhibiting artists, he has supported the mission of Mosaic of advancing the arts through supporting and promoting individual artists. He has come to know artists throughout the nation on a personal level, which creates artist retention, increases the quality and the reputation of Mosaic events and its mission, and enhances tourism and the quality of life in Greater Green Bay.
Thank you, Bill, for advancing the arts in Greater Green Bay!
