Nan Nelson is our Volunteer of the Week!
In 1989, the Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce identified a need for a strategic plan to promote the general prosperity and quality of life of the greater Green Bay area. This broad, but essential need to address the future of our community was to be met by a strategic planning council, which resulted in the creation of the Bay Area Community Council (BACC). In the more than 25 years that the BACC has existed as a think tank focused on unifying business, government, education and nonprofits in the greater Green Bay area, no one has contributed more to and better embodied the spirit, goals and futuristic vision of this strategic community leadership group of citizen volunteers than Nan Nelson.
Nan has worn many hats as a volunteer for the BACC including secretary, treasurer, and executive committee member and much more. Her contribution to the BACC over the past 10 years cannot be measured solely in the estimated 5,000 hours of volunteer activity spread over an average of 10 or more hours of weekly commitments. More important than the frequency and number of volunteer hours, is her consistent and continuous ability as a volunteer for whenever and however long needed.
As a representative for the BACC, Nan's ability to speak knowledgeably with local elected officials, community entrepreneurs, educators and nonprofit agencies enhances and raises the credibility of the BACC in fulfilling its mission and achieving the desired community impact.
Her wide acceptance by community leaders has
resulted in
significant progress, as more and more community needs are being addressed by collaborative projects.
Those who have had the opportunity of working with Nan see her as a treasure trove of wise, thoughtful and seasoned insight and advice into how the Green Bay area functions at its best.
Thank you, Nan, for facilitating cooperative action among citizens and leaders in our community!
