Volunteers of the Week
The HEA Kids Pack of Parkview Middle School are our Volunteers of the Week as well as our WPS Volunteer Awards Large Group Runner-Up

Happily Ever Animal Sanctuary (HEA) provides a loving home to every companion animal that enters their care. HEA has been fueled by the hearts of many caring volunteers each year. In September of 2018, a large group of nearly 100 energetic, compassionate, animal-loving middle school students formed the HEA Kids Pack of Parkview Middle School. This group was formed to create opportunities for youth to engage in causes they care about. In this case, the Kids Pack has chosen dogs and cats in need as their cause, but this is about a lot more than dogs and cats. The Kids Pack membership is as diverse as the animals served by HEA, and in alignment with HEA's belief system about animals, the Kids Pack views its members the same way - everyone fits. Beyond all else, the Kids Pack is about inclusion and acceptance. The Pack holds a simple ideal that is critical to the mission of HEA - the life of every companion animal matters. Every. Single. One.

The HEA Kids Pack had the intent to meet once a month after school. Kids Pack volunteers are so passionate and committed, that every month has called for multiple meetings. Work is done on lunch, at home, and out in the community beyond the hours and walls of their school. This volunteer effort has been in service for just over 7 months and they have already logged well over 800 hours of service. The Kids Pack is definitely an ongoing effort with its reach set to expand during the 2019-2020 academic school year.

The impact that the Kids Pack has made on HEA has been astronomical! Supply drives were conducted to help care for the 200 animals in HEA's daily care. Funds have been raised through fundraising events and donation drives. HEA's volunteers (who are the heart of HEA) were recognized by the Kids Pack for making the work of HEA a reality. The Pack has raised critical awareness for HEA by distributing HEA's mission to almost 400 families during the Ashwaubenon High School homecoming parade (dog treats included). The kids reached out to family and friends through social media during the "Hour of Love" for Give Big Green Bay. Pack members have become "forever families" for the animals in the care of HEA. Kids and parents are training as volunteers to work in the Adoption Center on a regular basis. This being the Pack's inaugural year, many of the things they have accomplished have been ideas of their own. Watching it all unfold has been a blessing to HEA. There is no job too big or too small for these kids.

The HEA Kids Pack was formed to inform, inspire and ignite the next generation. The message to the Pack was simple - "be the change you wish to see in the world." That change is reflected in the work of HEA and the Kids Pack . As the kids say when asked, "Who does your work matter to?" They cheerfully respond, “Everybody!”

Thank you, HEA Kids Pack of Parkview Middle School, for freely giving your time, talent, and energy to the companion animals at HEA!
