Volunteer of the Week
John Roake is our Volunteer of the Week!

On Broadway, Inc. is one of three downtown revitalization organizations in Green Bay. On Broadway was founded in the mid-90s. Since then, this district has seen a remarkable transformation. On Broadway is home to boutiques, special events and entertainment, restaurants and historic renovations.

John Roake has been a volunteer with the organization since the start of the Farmers' Market On Broadway's 2017 season. He showed up to volunteer at the first market and has continued to volunteer with On Broadway. Since then, John has volunteered more than 1,400 hours. On market days, John is there from start to finish, which means he volunteers 10+ hours at each farmers market. He has also volunteered at almost all of the other On Broadway events, including Winter Wine and Beer Walks, the Lighting Ceremony, and Winterfest. John has put in hundreds of hours in events alone, not including when he goes to the office to help with everyday tasks (i.e., distributing the Winter in the City guides in the business district). He is versatile and will help in whatever way the staff at On Broadway (and even vendors, businesses, and visitors) in any way he can. His responsibilities range from keeping the market grounds clean, to being a crossing guard, to assisting with vendor/business feedback, and the distribution of materials. John is a jack of all trades. He always works with a smile and brings a positive attitude to the team.

John has impacted the organization by taking weight off of the shoulders of staff and assisting in ways that go above and beyond a normal volunteer's abilities. He knows a lot about how each event works and how the process goes and is often tasked with crucial responsibilities that are necessary for the success of the event when other responsibilities have consumed the time of the staff. The On Broadway staff trusts John to accomplish the tasks he is given, because they know he cares about the events and the experiences of the visitors just as much as they do. Just recently, John received the On Broadway, Inc. volunteer of the year award.

Thank you, John, for going above-and-beyond while volunteering with On Broadway, Inc.!
