Volunteer of the Week
Steve Meyer is our Volunteer of the Week as well as our WPS Volunteer Awards Leadership Award Runner-Up

Serving others and finding solutions to fulfill community needs define servant leadership. Steve Meyer exemplifies what it means to have a community’s best interest at heart, having found a way to ensure the most vulnerable people in our community are taken care of. There was a time when the people living on the streets of Green Bay had little-to-no assistance when local agencies closed their doors for the night. Through collaboration and discussions, Steve Meyer was able to find a way to provide a loving, caring presence on the streets of Green Bay late at night for those experiencing homelessness.

Steve was a founding member of StreetLights Outreach, as well as its umbrella organization, Whatsoever You Do, which provides services when no other options are available for people. Under Steve’s direction and guidance, many other needs have surfaced, including bike repairs for homeless men and women, simple home adjustments for seniors, spiritual companionship for those on the streets who yearn for such a service, and even food for no-to-low income individuals.

Steve currently serves as the Vice Chair of the Board of Directors for Whatsoever You Do and spends hundreds of hours working with the various programs each year. By day, Steve is also the Principle Chief Strategy Officer at The Karma Group. In that role, Steve approves countless pro bono marketing efforts for area nonprofits. This gives these organizations a chance to get their mission and voices heard in the community. Whatsoever You Do has grown to oversee the work of five service programs: StreetLights Outreach, Spokes of Hope, Amani Outreach, The Giving Garden and SpiritWay. Steve provides input and direction to all of these endeavors.

Steve has an incredibly creative mind, and he shares this in the development of these programs. There are thousands of people on the margins in this community who have Steve to thank as he has creatively addressed the needs and come up with solutions that have made a positive impact throughout greater Green Bay. He has led the Board of Directors to think outside of the box with him to bring these solutions to fruition.

Without Steve, there would be no StreetLights Outreach. Without StreetLight Outreach, there would be no St. John’s Homeless Shelter. And if there was no St. John’s, Wellspring would have closed their doors this summer. With one man’s vision and courage to push forward, thousands of people’s lives have been positively changed. Steve is the definition of a servant leader, and our community is a better place because of it. Steve, thank you for everything you do to ensure everyone has a place to turn during their darkest hour!

Thank you, Steve, for creatively addressing the needs of those in need in our community!
