Lura Allen is our Volunteer of the Week
!
Scholarships, Inc. is a local nonprofit that encourages and invests in area students to succeed in higher education. Through scholarships and college readiness programming, Scholarships, Inc. provides the support and skills needed to help area students with financial needs realize their college dreams. In 2019, Scholarships, Inc is supporting 234 local students through scholarships while helping another 132 middle and high school students get accepted into college through their NEW Scholars college readiness program.
With help from volunteers like Lura Allen, Scholarships, Inc. is addressing the huge gap that exists in college degree attainment for low-income students by providing them with the needed skills and resources that can lead them to a degree. The effect of this support is permanent and life changing, as it provides opportunities not otherwise available to these students. With a better earning potential and more freedom of choice in the job market, they will enjoy increased job satisfaction and a better quality of life.
Lura has been an active and ongoing volunteer at Scholarships, Inc. since 2002, easily making her their longest-tenured volunteer. In the past 17 years, she has continued to take on more responsibilities and has proven to be someone Scholarships, Inc. can rely on for volunteer help whenever needed. Lura provides more than 50 hours of volunteer service annually.
Lura is the biggest cheerleader of Scholarships, Inc. She is always full of energy and ready for any challenge that they have. Her enthusiasm is especially helpful in working with the students in the NEW Scholars program. She is their most engaged volunteer and is willing to do whatever is asked to help accomplish the mission of Scholarships, Inc. of encouraging and investing in local youth to succeed in higher education. Lura always has a word of encouragement or compliment for the staff and students she works with. Her eternal optimism brings hope and enthusiasm to the office and those she helps.
Thank you, Lura, for your dedication to
helping area students with financial needs realize their college dreams!
