FROM THE NURSE'S CORNER

Our increased measures on mask-wearing (executive order 180) by Governor, Roy Cooper on November 25, was originally proposed to be in effect through Friday, December 11.  On December 8, an additional mandate (Executive order 181) extended our mask (face covering) mandate through January 8, 2021.  Here are the highlights for us to continue that is mandated for both public and private schools.

1) Anyone inside the building age five and older is to wear a face-covering at all times unless they are 1) eating/drinking 2) alone in their office, classroom or cubicle assigned area 3) mask exempt
  • Face coverings will be worn outside if you cannot distance consistently. Students should understand that while outside, they may choose to remove their face covering but socializing will need to be at a distance. If they choose to be close to their friends, face coverings need to be worn.
  • Athletes, coaches, spectators and referees will be required to use face coverings during practice and during games while indoors and outdoors (if unable to distance outdoors).
  • At any time an individual develops shortness of breath or difficulty breathing while wearing a face covering, they are encouraged to remove their face covering immediately and regardless.

2) Blessings during our Christmas break! Here is an optional link from NCDHHS with tips on navigating a healthy season:  NCDHHS Holidays NCDHHS-K-12-Holiday-Packet.pdf

3) As you return back to school on January 4, 2021 please refer to our Symptom Decision Tree for symptom guidance.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns please reach out to the school nurse for direction: [email protected]

EDUCATIONAL RENAISSANCE FEATURES VCA BIBLICAL STUDIES PROGRAM

"Enjoying the Bible as Literature: 5 Strategies for Engaging Students in Reading the Canon," an article written by Heidi Dean (Veritas Bible Teacher) was shared on the Educational Renaissance website, highlighting Veritas's Biblical Studies approach.

"In biblical studies we seek to cultivate the habits of reverence, humility, submission to the text, and other qualities of faithful scholarship. But I propose another goal should rise to the top: enjoyment. The enjoyment that students have in reading a novel, or an eerie poem, or an adventure epic. When students are engaging with the Bible, we should hear laughter and gasps. We should see quizzical eyebrows and wide-eyed shock..."
