Dear Vacaville Christian Community -
“VCS Book Choices, Books Read in Public Schools, and What Parents Should Know About Choosing Books for their Children”
I want to briefly highlight a past blog post I shared on our website that speaks directly to the intentional book choices we make at VCS. The literature our students read is never accidental; it is carefully selected to shape how they think, what they value, and how they engage the world through a Biblical lens. As I shared in the article:
“From an academic standpoint, selecting high-quality literature is essential to fostering a deep understanding, appreciation, and mastery of both language and ideas…Classic literature, with its enduring themes and complex characters, challenges students and promotes intellectual growth…Books wield a significant influence on shaping students’ worldviews. At VCS, we are intentional about selecting literature that not only reflects but also reinforces a Biblical worldview.” [click here to read the full article]
This commitment to thoughtful reading and moral formation feels especially timely as we approach Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Dr. King’s life and leadership reflected deep engagement with ideas, history, and Scripture, coupled with moral courage and clarity. These are the same qualities we seek to cultivate in our students through purposeful instruction and carefully chosen texts.
MLK Day
Please note that in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, there will be no school or extended care on Monday, January 19th. We look forward to welcoming students back on campus on Tuesday.
Thank you for your continued partnership and trust!
