Development, Engagement, and Wellness Committee Updates
wire-bound-pad.jpg
The Department of Surgery's Development, Engagement, and Wellness committee recently established various means of submitting feedback to provide team members convenient and anonymous means for providing valuable insight. Below are the most recent comments and concerns received as well as how they were addressed:

Funding for Administrative Staff for Professional Development: Funding for such activities is managed at the division level and is included in each division's budget. Additionally, the Administrator and HR Coordinator choose administrative assistants and other support staff to attend an all-day conference for skill and professional development every few months. To date, nine administrative assistants have attended.

Call Schedule: Concerns were raised regarding the efficiency and equity surrounding call schedules. As such, various scheduling platforms were identified and demos were set up for physician feedback. QGenda was ultimately selected and the new program should be ready by April for physician training and roll-out.

Coffee: A request was made for better coffee on West 16. You asked - we listened!

Call Room Cleanliness: Concerns were raised regarding the usability and cleanliness of the call room areas. Education and Administration leadership walked through all areas where problems were documented and addressed with facilities. Additionally, ACSS leadership is actively working to address the layout of the STICU call room.
Surgery Staff Feature
Meet Amanda Jabri, Research Supervisor with the newly established Office of Research, Biomedicine, Innovation and Technology (ORBIT). Amanda joined Surgery almost five years ago as an administrative assistant with Surgery Education. Given her hard work and dedication, she was recently appointed as the Research Supervisor when ORBIT was established.

As Research Supervisor, Amanda is responsible for ensuring that our principal investigators are receiving the guidance and support they need to include budget and financial assistance. When asked about the most exciting part of her job she responded "being able to work with our surgeon-scientists who are continuously developing innovative ideas and collaborations with VCU."

When not at work, you will find Amanda spending time with her husband and daughter, Olivia.
