VDOE Seeking VASSP Members to Apply for Committee Workgroups

VASSP is in receipt of a memo from VDOE requesting middle and high school principals and assistant principals to be engaged in some of the statewide work related to literacy, math and assessment.

In accordance with Executive Order 4, the VDOE is reestablishing the Virginia Literacy Act Workgroup and continuing the Innovative Assessment Work Group and the Math Task Force. They are actively seeking new and additional members to contribute their time, expertise, and perspectives to these important initiatives.

These groups provide meaningful opportunities for educators and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds to shape critical aspects of VDOE's work, including high-quality instructional materials, testing accommodations, and student reading plan processes. VASSP members are encouraged to apply.

Participation offers not only the chance to make a lasting impact on Virginia students, but also meaningful professional growth. As one current Math Task Force member shared, “listening to other task force members who look at these topics through a different lens helps me grow and see our work in new ways.”

Please see the VDOE newsletter here for detailed information about each group, membership criteria, and the application process. Applications are due by March 2.

If you have questions, please feel free to reply to Chief of Staff Holly M. Coy at this email or contact the individuals listed in the newsletter for each respective work group.
