The Virginia Economic Developers Association (VEDA) has named Del. Luke E. Torian, Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, as the recipient of the 2026 Michael W. Woods Legislator of the Year Award, recognizing his leadership and commitment to advancing economic development across the Commonwealth.
The Michael W. Woods Legislator of the Year Award honors a member of the Virginia General Assembly who has demonstrated sustained support for economic development initiatives, championed policies that strengthen Virginia’s business climate, and worked collaboratively with local and regional stakeholders to drive economic growth.
Torian, who has represented portions of Prince William County in the Virginia House of Delegates since 2010, currently serves as Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, one of the General Assembly’s most influential roles in shaping the Commonwealth’s budget and economic priorities. His leadership has been instrumental in advancing investments in infrastructure, workforce development, education, broadband expansion and economic opportunity for communities across Virginia.
Throughout his tenure, Torian has played a key role in crafting state budgets that balance fiscal responsibility with strategic investment, helping position Virginia for long-term economic success while maintaining its reputation for sound financial stewardship.
