Ale Circle Realignment Construction Begins

Construction activities in support of TSPLOST Project, Ale Circle Realignment have begun. The limits of the project are along Washington Rd from the Intersection at Camp Creek Pkwy to Victoria Circle. Preliminary activities will only include locating of utilities, surveying and staking, as well as marking of construction layout. Active construction of the project including clearing of trees and grading the land will begin shortly after and further communication will be provided.

The purpose of the project is to improve the operations of the intersection of Ale Circle at Washington Rd and Camp Creek Pkwy at Washington Rd. The project consists of widening along the west side of Washington Rd realigning Ale Circle north approximately 200 ft. The improvements will improve operations by providing an additional south-bound through lane and adding a dedicated south-bound right-turn lane on Washington Rd.

The City has contracted Construction 57, Inc for construction of this project. All work for this project will be completed within the City of East Point’s Right-of-Way and previously acquired easements. Throughout construction, traffic control will be provided to ensure safety for motorists and pedestrians.

Headland Drive and Delowe Drive Sidewalk and Intersection Improvements Underway

Construction activities for the Headland Dr and Delowe Dr Sidewalk and Intersection Improvements started on October 18th. During this phase of the project crews will install curbing, ADA ramps, and sidewalks along the following locations:

  • Delowe Dr. - From Montrose Dr to Elinwood Dr
  • Headland Dr. - Ridgecrest Lane to Kimmeridge Dr

Preliminary activities will only include locating of utilities and installation of erosion control fencing. During the project it may be necessary for the contractor to enter your property in order to construct the sidewalks and to replace driveway aprons, however the sidewalk will be constructed entirely within the city’s right of way. Notification will be provided for each property owner prior to construction along their property and disturbance of their driveway.

Please note that mailboxes in the path of the new sidewalk will be relocated or replaced in kind. Please have any materials, vehicles, etc. removed from the right of way and street adjacent to the right of way in order to allow the construction crews to install the sidewalks.

The City has contracted Autaco Development LLC for construction of this project. Throughout construction, traffic control will be provided to ensure safety for motorists and pedestrians.

Fulton Leadership Academy Students Tour Home Depot Fulfillment Center

On October 6, 2022, select juniors and seniors from Fulton Leadership Academy (FLA) took part in the “Home Depot experience,” as they toured the Home Depot Fulfillment Center located in the Camp Creek Business Center in East Point, Georgia. The students were greeted by smiling Home Depot employees with orange aprons who were excited to showcase how the fulfillment center supplies customers daily with online orders and appliance installations. Select employees also shared their personal experiences working at Home Depot and the career path that led them there. The tour was organized by East Point Councilwoman Stephanie Gordon and former East Point Councilmember Alexander Gothard to expose the students to an alternative career path.

“The Home Depot team, former councilmember Alexander Gothard and I worked together to coordinate this effort because we realized that not every student wants to go to college directly after high school,” said Councilwoman Stephanie Gordon. “We want to always make opportunities available to expose students who may want to jump directly into the workforce after high school.”

The Home Depot team also provided a catered lunch for the students. Fulton Leadership Academy is located in East Point and was founded by Mrs. Richardean Anderson, an award-winning educator with more than 30 years of experience. FLA is Georgia’s first single-gender public charter school for boys grades 6-12.
