Adopt A Unit:

Numerous NJ National Guard units will be deploying in the upcoming months and the State Commander is requesting our posts and/or districts to adopt and support these troops and their families.

Some examples of support:

• Family Days- VFW understands the importance of family to the military member and their mission
• Welcome Home & Pre Deployment events
• Holiday events
• Meetings and Support Seminars
• Community Projects
• Direct assistance- lawn care, auto repairs, renovations to help accommodate a newly wounded service member
• Packages to deployed troops
• And much more

VFW Posts work with unit commanders, senior enlisted personnel and family support groups to develop supportive relationships with units before, during and after deployments.

There will be both National & State grants of up to $6,000.00 available to assist the districts and posts that adopt a unit.

Although posts can team up to combine their efforts and resources, only one post or district can be submitted as adopting a specific unit to National HQ. Smaller posts with limited resources should consider a district adoption.

The application to adopt a unit is HERE Please only fill out the Unit name and Armory location from the list below, along with your VFW District or Post information, and return to Helen at office@njvfw.com We will submit your application to the Guard and you will be notified of the contacts for the unit. You will also receive a package from National HQ regarding the adoption along with certificates to present to the unit.

Please do not adopt a unit if your membership is not committed to supporting the unit throughout the deployment and welcoming home.

Two Air National Guard units have recently deployed and are adopted by their local posts who have supported the units in the past.
