Park Boulevard Railroad Crossing Closure

Begins June 7

Union Pacific will be closing the Park Boulevard railroad crossing beginning Wednesday, June 7 through Friday, June 16 for repairs. The crossing will be closed for vehicles and pedestrians as Union Pacific makes improvements for vehicle traffic. Detour signage will be in place, please use caution when driving in the area.

While scheduling the closure of a major downtown crossing can be an inconvenience for motorists and commuters, Public Works was successful in negotiating the improvements as not to coincide with major Glenbard West events.

Village Links 50th Anniversary
The Village Links Golf Course has become known as one of the finest municipal courses in the Chicago area. It all started in the 1960's when widespread housing development of suburban land influenced the desire for open space as part of a healthy environment.   The Village of Glen Ellyn set out to build a combination public golf course and storm water detention system on 170 acres in the southern part of town.

For the last 50 years, the Village Links has uniquely operated as an Enterprise Fund without any taxpayer support, completely independent of other Village funds. All costs are paid through golf and restaurant revenues. From professional tournaments to company get-togethers, the Village Links has proudly been a respite for Chicagoland golfers for 50 years - and hopes to continue these traditions long into the future. For more information on the history of the Village Links, a listing of events taking place this year and special anniversary offers, please visit www.villagelinksgolf.com.
French Market Opening Day and Prairie Path Park Ribbon Cutting
Discover what's new in the Glen Ellyn community on Sunday, June 4 as the downtown celebrates opening day of the French Market, at its new location, and invites the public to celebrate the newly renovated Prairie Path Park with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The combination of the market's vitality and the new life brought to the Prairie Path Park creates new opportunities for Glen Ellyn residents and visitors to experience this corridor of the downtown.

New Location for French Market
The Glen Ellyn French Market, hosted by the Glen Ellyn Chamber of Commerce, opens for the season on Sunday, June 4. The Market is moving to a new location this year, in the Main Street Train Station South parking lot (between Main Street and Forest Avenue). This new location offers the community greater access and more visibility of this event than in previous years. The Market is held every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., spanning June 4 through October 29.

This year, to celebrate the Market's opening day, there will be free giveaways to attendees on a first come, first serve basis. For more information on visiting the French Market, please visit the Chamber of Commerce website.

Prairie Path Park Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
Adjacent to the French Market, to the east, a ribbon cutting ceremony to dedicate the recently completed improvements to the Prairie Path Park will be held at noon on Sunday, June 4. This May, in an effort to improve access to the park and enhance the experience for visitors, several Glen Ellyn public and nonprofit agencies joined together to upgrade the park

Two outdoor chess tables and an outdoor ping pong table were installed by the park district and the park district is further improving the area with plantings, mulch and other landscaping touches. Park visitors are encouraged to bring ping pong paddles and balls, chess pieces and checker sets to the park. Game equipment also may be borrowed from the Glen Ellyn Civic Center, 535 Duane Street, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. All equipment must be returned by 4pm the same day.
