Special Note about Obtaining NHSN SAMS Level-3 Access

We are aware that many members continue to experience delays in obtaining their SAMS Level-3 access. According to information from AHCA, it is our understanding that CMS CLIA inspectors will take into consideration evidence that facilities are making to meet the November 21 deadline. You should be documenting all of your efforts to obtain this access.

Instructions on upgrading to SAMS Level-3 access are available here. Alternatively, facilities can email [email protected] with the subject line “Enhancing Data Security” to begin upgrading their SAMS access to use this pathway.
BD Veritor Antigen Testing Replenishment

Virginia has purchased additional antigen testing capability (BD Veritor System) to be sent to facilities that received direct shipments of either the BD Veritor System or the Quidel Sofia Antigen FIA from the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and/or BinaxNOW earlier this fall.

Several facilities that had received the Quidel platform will receive the BD Veritor testing system instead as Quidel had a backlog at the time the state placed its order of these tests.

Facilities will receive two times (2x) the amount of tests that HHS initially provided. Facilities that did not receive BinaxNOW Antigen Testing Cards directly from HHS will receive four times (4x) the number of tests that HHS initially provided.

VDH will be working with the Virginia Department of Emergency Management Disaster Logistics and the Department of General Services to begin the distribution of these tests the week of November 16.

Through the LTCF Taskforce and the Commonwealth Antigen Testing Team, VDH will seek feedback from facilities on use of these tests. This will help inform a future purchase of additional antigen tests planned for December. Considerations will include use of other platforms versus continuing with the BD Veritor System.

We will provide more information on the distribution of these tests as they become available and additional contact information on questions and concerns about these tests.
Verify Your Pharmacy Partnership Program Registration

The deadline for opting into the Pharmacy Partnership Program was November 6, 2020. As of noon last Friday, VDH knew a significant number of long term care facilities (LTCFs) had yet to complete the survey.

To ensure Virginia's facilities are provided the opportunity to take advantage of this program, VDH partnered with HHS to opt in all Virginia nursing homes and assisted living facilities that had not yet completed the survey.

Please note, this action does not bind any facility to program participation, nor does it assign a facility to a specific pharmacy partner. Rather, this action was taken to ensure as many of Virginia’s LTCFs are contacted and placed in the queue if and when the program kicks off and the facility wishes to participate.

What is most important at present is that your facility is registered for the program. You can review your selection as follows:

  • SNFs can review their data in NHSN by going in through the calendar view.
  • ALFs can review their selection in REDCap using the unique code that the facility received when the form was initially completed.

Questions on this can be referred to [email protected].
