Dropping Off and Picking Up Your Child At Hamilton
Each day about 700 students arrive and depart Velma Hamilton Middle. When combined with students at Van Hise Elementary, this number of students coming and going from our campus is well over 1,000 students! As a school, we work with the City of Madison and our Building Services Offices to plan for the safe drop-off and pick-up of students each day. While we work to keep our traffic flow safe, please adhere to the following guidelines:

Drop-Off/Pick-Up: Please do not drive into school parking lots at the start and end of the school day as they are very congested with students and unsafe for auto traffic. This rule applies to both our Waukesha Street lot and our Segoe Road lot. Often times, the best place to drop a child off is a block or two from school, having them walk the last couple blocks to Hamilton. Encourage your child to use marked crosswalks. At pick-up time, please try to avoid parking across the street from Hamilton and calling your child to run across the street to your car. (Note: You may use our Waukesha Street lot for dropping off students arriving late, and for picking up students during the school day.)

Bus Parking Area: We ask that you do not stop your car in our bus loading area to drop your child off at the start of the school day or to wait for them at the end of the day. The bus loading area extends from our Waukesha Street parking lot entrance north all the way to the fire hydrant on our school side of the street.

Thank you for helping to make the start and end of our school day safe for our entire community. Remember, safety is no accident!
Book Fair Update
A special THANK YOU to all families who donated to the shared student eWallet that is making book purchases possible for all Hamilton students--you have created a fund of nearly $300 for student purchases! Overall, and as of this writing, book sales are way ahead of last year. We greatly appreciate your support of our Book Fair, which puts books in the hands of our students and provides an important funding source for keeping our Hamilton Library up to date with the latest publications!
