Getting Caffeinated
I write this news item fully cognizant that my weekly video announcement to students is titled "Coffee With The Principal." I do start my day with a cup of caffeinated coffee, and most often that cup I am holding up in the videos is truly filled with a steaming 12 ounces of forty weight.
Many of our students are also beginning their day at Hamilton Middle with their own dose of caffeine in the form of cans of Bubbl'r, bottles of Starbucks Cappuccino, and more. As parents, providing your child with this type of drink is completely up to you. I do know that for some children consumption of a stimulant such as caffeine does produce a desirable effect.
The above said, we do have a current concern with regard to some students bringing to school large quantities of caffeinated beverages (i.e., cases) and handing the drinks out to friends and acquaintances from their lockers or in the cafeteria. As such, a couple of asks to parents and families:
Please talk to your child about your view on the consumption of caffeinated beverages at school.
Please do not allow your child to bring beverages of any type to school in quantities beyond what is necessary for personal consumption on any given day. For a variety of reasons, students are not allowed to share food with others. When we become aware of large quantities of beverages in the possession of a single student, we will contact parents to discuss the situation, including picking up any excess product.
Thank you for the support!
