Standard Response Protocol: Keeping Hamilton Safe for All
This week in Advisory classes students were taught protocols for a variety of emergency situations at school. Teachers guided students through a presentation on the Standard Response Protocol. Students learned what their role is, and how to stay safe, if the school is directed to Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, Shelter, or Hold.
We want students to know that the adults at school have a plan for emergencies. In addition, we want students to feel confident in what they need to do should we ever need to implement one of our emergency protocols.
As a reminder, throughout the school year students will practice what they learn through a variety of drills. In addition to fire drills and tornado drills, we are required by state law to conduct two school safety incident drills (such as Evacuate, Hold, or Secure), and a Lockdown drill. Students, staff, and families will be informed in advance of a pending Lockdown drill. Lockdown drills are never done by surprise, and it is made abundantly clear that our drill is just that: a drill.
