February Principal Update
By: John Burkholder
When we are at Hamilton for in-person schooling, students who participate in Jillian Johnson's Culinary Arts classes often go through a unit where they learn seven different ways to make an egg. I'll give you a moment to stop and do your thinking and counting. During distance learning students have been submitting pictures of their kitchen creations to Ms. Johnson and I have been sharing them in this newsletter. With intention I chose a shot of an egg served sunny side up for this particular news item.
My work these days as principal centers largely around creating a plan for our eventual offering of an in-person option to schooling for our students. This is work that at times can feel a bit scrambled as none of us have ever had the need to plan for in-person schooling during a pandemic. Information can seem ever-changing, and it can be hard to separate out the facts from the rumors, but I try to take all this information over-easy and not get flustered. It will all get sorted out eventually. I do think that the trend lines on this virus are improving, more people are getting vaccinated, and with these developments, an in-person schooling option becomes more and more likely.
I do not seek to minimize or in any way reduce the significance of this pandemic, but in my work each day at Hamilton Middle I will presume that there will be a return to a more familiar format for schooling, and for that I will remain optimistic and keep a sunny side up perspective.
While I am not personally aware of any pending changes to our completely distance learning format, I do encourage you to be on the lookout for continuing communication coming from the district with regard to eventual changes to our current format for schooling.
Did you remember to count poached?
