November Principal Update
By John Burkholder, Principal
Peak fall colors are generally on the wane as we begin the last month of autumn. In the lead up to Election Day, one last splash of color dots the landscape in the form of yard signs advocating a plethora of candidates and causes. On a recent weekend trip to the hardware store, I noted the front lawn of a home with no fewer than 14 brightly colored yard signs. Apparently there is a cornucopia of choices on the November ballot, each one hoping to celebrate victory with their sign displaying supporters. At Hamilton we don’t display signs that advocate for any one candidate or cause. If we did display a sign, it would pledge our support for our students, families, and community; and we wouldn’t need an election day as an excuse to display our sign.
At Hamilton we celebrate each and every day the diversity of our community and the richness and joy that it brings to our work. Our students and families come to us from the world over, bringing with them languages, traditions, and customs that provide the contrasts necessary for rich learning experiences built on the diversity of ideas, opinions, and beliefs. In this season of fall, we take time at Hamilton Middle to remind ourselves that our cornucopia is filled with everything we need.
As our year makes the turn from the first to second quarter, know that at Hamilton Middle we are committed to creating a learning environment in which the full diversity of our entire community is embraced and the needs of each individual student are met. We look forward to seeing you at parent-teacher conferences later this month!
