To change your habits,
you must first change your mind.
It is that simple - no advanced degree in neuroscience necessary. But, it takes a consistent and intentional action on your part. That is what I hope you will commit to doing over the next days, weeks and months. By applying God's principles, practically and specifically to the areas where you struggle, you can realize dynamic and lasting change. Really! I know...it happened in my own life...more than once. I overcame 15 years of compulsive emotional eating issues and have stayed lean and healthy for decades. I know for a fact that you can do the same. I've dedicated years to writing and speaking on this subject because I know how devastating and frustrating it is to be in bondage to unhealthy habits.
DON'T EXPECT PERFECTION
To start the New Year right, start with a realistic attitude! If you expect yourself to follow your new healthy eating plan or new exercise regime PERFECTLY - you are poised for failure. Dump "All or Nothing" attitudes and celebrate each and every small step you take in the right direction! Learn to make midcourse corrections in your day. So what if you ate too much at lunch or polished off your child's fries? Just make a decision to eat less at dinner and go for a walk.
REMEMBER
EVERY SINGLE MOMENT...is a fresh opportunity to make a fresh start. Don't let small (or even big) slip ups set you off track. Learning to make hour to hour mid-course corrections in your lifestyle will add up to BIG CHANGES OVERALL!
RENEW YOUR MIND: Identify Your Lies
If you've been trying to change the same habit for what seems like forever - you probably have some deep seated thoughts that are driving your toward failure. Do you believe you can lose weight? Do you know you can quit smoking? Do you feel confident you can become an active person? If you don't - you won't. God designed your brain so that you believe what you tell yourself most often. So, what are you REALLY telling yourself? If it is not positive and moving you toward your goal - you need to change it.
YOUR ASSIGNMENT FOR TODAY:
Identify at least one lie that is holding you back, and write a counteractive truth! Memorize that new message and say it out loud to yourself every couple hours - every day for the next 30 days. Then, make sure you continue to say it at least 2-3 times per day for another 3-6 MONTHS. Yes...MONTHS!
