M3-RS-U2 Rotary Microstage Developer's Kit

This new rotary microstage provides point-to-point angular positioning with closed-loop resolution better than 0.022 degrees, bandwidth of 100Hz and 360 degree continuous rotation.

As with all M3 Smart Modules, it has a piezoelectric micro motor and all drive electronics completely integrated in the miniature stage housing. There is no external control board, allowing users to achieve the smallest system size and fastest integration of precision motion in smaller, more powerful instruments.

The developer's kit includes
  • One M3-RS-U2-4.5-360 Rotary Smart Stage with embedded controller (mirror not included)
  • A breakout board, USB adapter, and cables that allow you to connect the stage to your PC for evaluation and development
  • New Scale Pathway™ software, a powerful development tool that lets you easily evaluate the micro stages and validate your embedded software.

Piezos for Delicate Actuation
Design World published an excellent overview of piezo-based technologies and applications in their April 2023 issue. But how can system designers get started with using piezoelectric motors? Major challenges include:

  • Mounting the piezoelectric micro motor in such a way that performance is optimized.

  • Creating drive circuitry and integrating it into the system controller – usually with the added requirement to minimize size and power consumption.

M3 Smart Modules address both of these challenges. The motor is optimally mounted inside a mechatronic housing that is robust and easy to install in the OEM system. The control circuitry is miniaturized and integrated into the same housing, requiring only a DC voltage and high-level motion commands for input.

Meetze has more than 18 years of experience at Navitar, Inc., a Rochester, NY manufacturer of precision optics for biotech, medical, security, and industrial applications, and three years prior experience in sales at LaserMax.
