Journey to the Cross & Empty Tomb...

Jesus said to her, "I am the Resurrection and the Life. Whoever believes in me, though he dies, yet shall he live."

John 11:25

Our prayer at Volunteers In Service is that your journey to the cross this Lenten season and your celebration at the empty tomb draw your heart into a closer relationship with the Redeemer, our Resurrection and Life.

We are "Jesus with skin on!"

Natalie* was fighting tears on the phone, overwhelmed by God's provision and the love she felt through VIS and volunteers.

"You all are an answer to prayer! We were all by ourselves up here with no support system after our housing voucher was chosen and we moved out of the shelter. You have made us feel so loved and valued. I know I am a child of God through the love I've felt through the church and through VIS! Thank You!"

Volunteers from local churches have been walking alongside Natalie and her sons as they acclimate to their new community. In addition to driving Natalie to the grocery store and food pantry, volunteers from a local church recently delivered a donated bedframe and mattress for her adult son with disabilities.

You see, God is already at work in our community and He invites us, the people of God, to join Him. Where will we find Him working? Look for the places where hope and redemption are needed. Look for where grace can be applied. Look for situations where a little love will make a difference. That's where Jesus is already working and we, God's people, are HOW people experience Him!

Greg Finke in Joining Jesus on His Mission reminds us that "we are Jesus with skin on...through our hands people experience the hands of Jesus. Through our voice people hear the voice of Jesus. Through our service people experience the care of Jesus. Through our face people see the face of Jesus. Jesus brings himself to people through us." (p.92)

Every request VIS receives to serve a community member is an invitation to join Jesus on His mission to redeem and restore people to Himself. Thank you for saying YES to opportunities to serve and donating your time, talents, and resources to being "Jesus with skin on" in our local community!

Biblical Foundations of Benevolence

Ten churches from seven denominations joined VIS at the Benevolence Workshop on March 27. Thank you to St. Luke's Lutheran for hosting!

"I absolutely loved that there were 10 different churches represented! So cool to come together with the same goal in mind and be able to connect with one another."

"I enjoyed the discussions with folks from other churches regarding how they approach benevolence and found it very helpful." Learn more HERE.

"Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God." Hebrews 13:16
