Memorial Day

Celebrate, Honor,

Remember.

Empowering Christians to join Christ's work in their community.

Serving One Another In Love Requires...

Generosity: a willingness to give your time to others.

Understanding: because their lives might be very different from your own.

Empathy: an ability to put yourself in someone else's shoes and feel what they must feel.

Compassion: to truly care about making someone else's life better.

Patience: because the process doesn't always go as smoothly as it might.

Dedication: to stick with the project and see it through.

Serving others in the name of Jesus witnesses Christ's love and grows

the Kingdom of God. Thank you for showing these qualities

and so much more as you connect with opportunities to

serve your neighbors, walking with them in God's compassion and grace.

"Those young men that came to my house did a great job! They fixed my fence and got everything cleaned up in my yard. It looks great! I was very impressed by their work! Please thank them for their service!"

-Burnette said when she called the VIS office.

"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you," Rebecca expressed through tears. She called early Monday morning after a men's group power washed her home, cleaned her gutters, and trimmed tree limbs hanging onto her roof over the weekend. "What a burden they lifted off my shoulders!" These men were the literal hands and feet of Jesus to Rebecca!

Transportation Needed:

Gaylord House Residents in Cascade Township

Did you know there is a low-income senior housing apartment complex called Gaylord House near 28th St SE and Cascade? Twenty eight residents (most in their 80's and 90's) have created a beautiful, cohesive community in these HUD-housing apartments. The Resident Services Coordinator called VIS last week to ask about our services. Five of the residents have no transportation and are struggling to access food and health care services. She wondered if the Church could step into the gap.

Unfortunately, at this time, VIS is at its capacity serving current VIS friends (clients.) VIS is not accepting new referrals for transportation support UNLESS we can recruit additional volunteers. Are you willing to provide a ride to one of these seniors 1x/month, every other week, or 1x/week? Each request from a resident will be a 1x only commitment for the volunteer based on their availability. Let's witness Christ's love to these seniors! Are you ready Church?

PS: Other residents at Gaylord House would appreciate a friendly visitor volunteer to shine the light of Jesus and stop by for a caring conversation. Interested?

Your Generosity Makes Kingdom Impacts

Through your financial support, God transforms servant hearts and willing hands into Kingdom impact!

Joseph* could be described as a big teddy bear of a guy with a quick smile. He is in his mid-40's, the son of a pastor who died of COVID at the height of the pandemic. Joseph struggles due to debilitating narcolepsy, neuropathy in his legs, diabetes, and an inability to read and write. Over the past several months, volunteers from several churches have wrapped their arms around Joseph, showering him with God's love and grace! Volunteers deliver food once a month from a food pantry, pray with Joseph, take him to the pharmacy, grocery store, and hygiene pantry, and provide social support at a local church's community lunch. Most importantly, they remind him he is loved by his Heavenly Father.

Your support has equipped these volunteers to find joy in serving God as they witness Christ's steadfast love to Joseph. Thank you for empowering the Church -the people of God- to join Christ's work in their community, offering God's peace, love, and hope to those like Joseph that sometimes feel forgotten. *name changed
