SPRING 2026 – Celebrating Our Volunteers!

VISTE’s mission is to enable elderly persons to remain safely and independently in their own homes.

National Volunteer Month takes place throughout April to honor the significant impact of volunteers and encourage community service. VISTE takes this opportunity to celebrate during our Annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon. So, to quote Robert Orben:

“Here's to all volunteers, those dedicated people who believe in all work and no pay.”
My mother modeled the volunteer spirit for me as post-retirement were some of the most joyful and meaningful years of her life. Motivated by her deep faith and a servant’s heart, my mom was actively engaged in more than a dozen professional, social, and church groups. She volunteered with the Retired Teachers Association, tennis and golf leagues, and multiple church activities, including bringing communion to the “old people” in nursing homes. She told me that most of the people she visited were younger than her. When I asked why she referred to them as “old people” she quickly replied, “because they’re living in a nursing home.”

Our gratitude is in full bloom! At VISTE, our volunteers are the roots of our mission and a leading reason we are able to thrive. Through their dedication, compassion, and generosity, VISTE continues to grow into a stronger, more supportive community for the seniors we serve – helping them remain safely and independently in their own homes. The Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon is our heartfelt way of saying THANK YOU!

Did you know VISTE now provides essential services for nearly 5,000 local seniors? Last year, we completed 14,702 transportation trips, delivered 46,372 hot meals, distributed 11,236 boxes of groceries, and made 10,000 reassurance calls – among many other helpful programs.
Thanks to the generosity of the community and 1,500 caring volunteers, all services are free of charge to our clients! By working together, we help our local seniors age in place with hope, dignity, and the respect they deserve. On behalf of our grateful clients – THANK YOU!!

“Dear VISTE, Thank you for the transportation to the clinic recently. The driver was very sweet and kind. This was the first time I used your services, and it was wonderful. We are so blessed to have you in Lakeland!” – Jean

Every day we receive calls for assistance with food, transportation, accessibility ramps, and other services. The needs are great, and VISTE works hard to accommodate those requests, at no charge to the client. THANK YOU for your contribution – it means so much to a senior in need!

The need is great, but together we are greater than the need!
