PLANETARY HEALTH UPDATE

VJH Pharmacy is now implementing using Sugar Sheet copy paper, a great way to reduce the environmental impact of paper usage!

Perinatal Webinar; Navigating Trauma History and Attachment: Essential Skills for Perinatal Healthcare Providers

A session delivered by Dr Hillary McBride registered Psychologist, Clinical counsellor and known author. In collaboration with UBC CPD, the Perinatal Community of Practice is excited to offer this free accredited webinar for all primary care providers. This session will help you identify signs of past trauma in patient interactions, understand how past trauma affects perinatal care, and learn strategies to support new parents in fostering secure attachment with their newborn. You’ll also find out about key resources for trauma support.


As a result of attending the webinar, healthcare professionals will be able to:

  • Recognize signs of trauma during perinatal patient interactions.
  • Discuss the impacts of trauma on perinatal care.
  • Describe effective strategies for supporting new parents in fostering secure attachment with their newborn.
  • Identify appropriate resources for perinatal patients needing trauma support.

By the end of this session, learners will be able to:

  • Manage CYSU patients effectively
  • Demonstrate proficiency in navigating CYSU clinical care pathway in Pathways BC
  • Describe developmental considerations when caring for youth who use substances
  • Describe how motivational interviewing can be used to engage youth in care and inform treatment planning
  • Identify personal learning goals for culturally safe and humble care to Indigenous youth with substance use issues
  • Identify youth-specific screening tools and referral resources
