1. Why are you a member of VLTA?
I wanted to understand what the VLTA as an organization is all about. WOW! What an eye opener. This Association works tirelessly in making sure our industry is represented fairly and professionally. Although some of it is done behind the scenes, you can trust that all issues are addressed and fought for.
2. How long have you been in the title industry and how did you get started in this profession?
I began working for a title abstract company part-time after school in 1987. I never imagined it would lead me to where I am today. During my time in the industry, I have been an examiner, underwriter, agency compliance admin, worked for a title software vendor and am now an Agency Representative in the Northern Virginia area.
3. What excites you about what you do or what is the most challenging aspect of your job?
I love helping our agents succeed.
4. Why is the title industry a great career opportunity for those entering the workforce and what advice do you have for professionals starting their career in the industry?
The title industry is a great career choice because there are so many segments and different directions you can go. It’s not simply issuing commitments and policies or conducting closings. There are several components to each step in the process of buying or refinancing a home. One position can easily transition into another. For someone starting out, I’d say don’t give up if you don’t like the position you are in. There are many options.
5. What is something that others in the industry may not know about you?
I was a Clogger when I was young, and once danced alongside Roy Rogers during an event in Fredericksburg.
