December Student Checklist

  • Complete the District of Columbia College Access Program (DC-CAP) Scholarship application. It opens December 1st, and must be completed annually.



  • Know where you stand in each class before taking finals.


  • Visit the writing center on your campus if you have any essays to write. Keep in mind that you may need to make an appointment.


  • Remember to eat healthy, exercise, and get plenty of sleep during finals. This will help with any stress you may be experiencing.


  • Use the campus resources available -- tutoring, writing center, career center, library resources, mental health resources, financial aid support.


  • Keep confident going into your finals.


  • Make sure you have registered for spring classes.


  • Go over your goals and see how much you accomplished this semester and reflect on the things that worked and did not work and create changes.


  • Participate in Alumni Night and the VMP Winter Social with College Bound. The high school students need to hear and see YOU! Remember if you are not able to attend any VMP event, you must contact the VMP Coordinator prior to the event to make alternative arrangements when possible.


  • Have a safe winter break.



  • Search and apply for scholarships.

Procter & Gamble HBCYOU Scholarship Program

The Procter & Gamble HBCYOU Scholarship is for full-time students who have a 3.0 or higher GPA. Eligible applicants must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student at any U.S. located, accredited, four-year college or university.

Award: Up to $2,500.00

UNCF Element Fleet Scholarship

In partnership with UNCF, Element Fleet has developed the UNCF Element Fleet Scholarship to provide need-based scholarships to African American college students who are interested in business- and business-related fields. This scholarship opportunity is open to students who are juniors and seniors in the fall of 2024 with priority given to applicants with majors (including but not limited to: accounting, business, human resources, finance, marketing, sales, supply chain management).

AREMA Educational Foundation Scholarships

Writers of the Future Contest

Entries in the Writers of the Future Contest are adjudicated only by professional writers. Prizes of $1000, $750 and $500 are awarded every three months. From the four quarterly 1st Place winners each year, a panel of judges select one story as the grand prize winner. The writer of the grand-prize-winning story receives the L. Ron Hubbard Golden Pen Award and an additional $5000 cash prize.
