PHA Members Coming Together to Solve Key Issues through Focused Topic Workgroups
|
|
“At PHA, we understand there is no shortage of challenges for the healthcare industry and our nation’s consumers must remain our primary focus. As always PHA will stay laser-focused on the most pressing issues our membership is facing,” stated Rose Maljanian, Chairman & CEO HealthCAWS and PHA Board Chairman Emeritus.
As such, PHA has launched three vital members-only focused topic Workgroups to work with our members toward achieving a multi-stakeholder vision and solution:
- Integrated Behavioral Health
- Advancing Primary Care
- Medicaid: Improving Continuity of Care, Access and Health Equity
The Integrated Behavioral Health Workgroup was formed because Integrating Behavioral Health, Medical, and SDOH care and supports is vital to success of Population Health Management. The Workgroup recently released an Issue Brief, entitled “Achieving Success in Population Health Management with Integrated Care.” A September Webinar (details coming soon) is planned to review the Issue Brief and dive deeper into the topics presented, including the importance of engagement, care coordination and analytics. The effort is led by workgroup Chair Matt Miclette, Senior Director of Clinical Operations at NeuroFlow.
The Advancing Primary Care Workgroup is focused on solving for fragmentation in care and support solutions to provide a better experience for consumers and their primary care providers, while averting complications and optimizing health outcomes. Workgroup Chair, Doron Schneider, MD, MBA FACP, Vice President of Population Health and Clinical Strategy at Tandigm Health, has designed an extensive case study approach, refined with input from the group that will allow all PHA members to contribute to the comprehensive solution set based on their unique core strengths.
The new Medicaid Workgroup that is focused on unifying all stakeholders to deliver innovative solutions for the nations’ most vulnerable individuals, will commence its first meeting in August. The group will be led by PHA Board Member Bill Lucia, Principal of Bill Lucia Associates, LLC and former Chairman and CEO of HMS, and Leesa Allen, Director of Sellers Dorsey, and former Executive Deputy Secretary for the Department of Human Services (DHS) in Pennsylvania, as well as the Commonwealth’s Medicaid Director. The group will consist of PHA member companies that desire to impact policy, quality, and cost for companies and improve access, health outcomes, and mitigate social and health equity barriers to achieve optimal outcomes for Medicaid members.
Take advantage of the opportunity to network with like-minded accomplished peers from across the healthcare ecosystem!
If you are employed by a PHA member company and would like to participate in any one of these three Workgroups, please email us at staff@populationhealthalliance.org. If you're not a member and would like to join the Population Health Alliance, click here to become a member or learn more. We look forward to working with you!

NACDD Statement Denouncing White Supremacy and White Supremacist Domestic Terrorism as Public Health Threats
The National Association of Chronic Disease Directors (NACDD) Board of Directors issued the following statement today in response to several recent incidences of racist violence across the country:
“Two years ago, the National Association of Chronic Disease Directors joined with other public health organizations in declaring racism a threat to public health. We also made a commitment within our Strategic Plan to become an anti-racist organization, and our Board Presidents’ Challenges also have focused on helping to improve understanding of racism within public health organizations and ways we can collaborate to create more equitable, anti-racist public health programing. While this work continues, we feel we also must explicitly denounce white supremacy and white supremacist domestic terrorism as some of the greatest threats to American health and well-being." A Letter to the Community: Our Response to Roe v. Wade
"As a health care organization, our hearts are heavy because we know that the Supreme Court's decision regarding Roe v. Wade will make America less safe. Less safe to be a woman needing reproductive care. Less safe to be poor and unable to travel long distances to seek abortion services. Less safe for families on the brink of financial collapse who cannot afford another child..." Read full letter.

"Point32Health and its family of companies, including Harvard Pilgrim Health Care and Tufts Health Plan, is carefully examining the Supreme Court decision, Dobbs v. Mississippi Dept. of Health, which overturned the long-standing precedent of Roe v. Wade, to understand its implications for our members. We remain committed to ensuring our members have access to all benefits and services that are part of their benefit plan. This decision does not and will not change our commitment." Statement to Our Jefferson Community on the Dobbs v. Jackson Decision
"In light of the U.S. Supreme Court decision in the Dobbs. v. Jackson case, many across the Jefferson community are experiencing a range of emotions. After careful consideration and thought, we recognize that our diverse community has varying, even opposing, and passionately held opinions about this decision. The ruling by the court also arrives during an already stressful time when we find ourselves dealing with many issues in our country and the world such as the ongoing COVID pandemic, unrest, poverty, violence, increasing homicides, and the war in Ukraine to name just a few. We would like to give clear information regarding the impact of the recent Supreme Court decision on the care available at Jefferson. The decision to overturn Roe v. Wade means that there is no longer a national policy. Currently, the state of the law has not changed in Pennsylvania or New Jersey. Therefore, we will continue to offer the same services as always."
