NCQA Unveils 2022 Health Plan Ratings

The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) recently announced its 2022 Health Plan Ratings. The annual list evaluates commercial, Medicare and Medicaid health plans based on the quality of patient care, how happy patients are with their care and health plans’ efforts to keep improving. The 2022 Health Plan Ratings are based on data from calendar year 2021, when 203 million people were enrolled in health plans that reported Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS®) results to NCQA. Plans are rated on a 0–5 stars scale. Six out of 1,048 health plans that earned a numerical rating achieved 5 stars—the highest possible rating. Read press release.

New Blue Cross Blue Shield Association Report Finds Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Maternal Health Complications Climbed during COVID-10 Pandemic

Recently, the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) released a report that confirms women of color are at higher risk of pregnancy-related complications, regardless of having commercial health insurance or Medicaid. Instead, the data indicates U.S. maternal health disparities are likely the result of broader health system and societal challenges, including underlying chronic conditions, racial inequities, and likely biases within the health care system. Pregnancy-related complications have worsened 9% since 2018, with marked increase during the COVID-19 pandemic, with some women of color at nearly 70% higher risk of pregnancy-related complications than White women. Independent Health among the Nation's Highest-Rated Health Plans by NCQA

Independent Health is once again one of the highest-rated health plans in the nation for clinical quality and member satisfaction, according to the “National Committee for Quality Assurance’s (NCQA) Health Plan Ratings 2022: Commercial.” Independent Health’s HMO/POS (Commercial) plan has been rated 4.5 out of 5 nationally in 2022, and was rated as a 4.5 plan from 2015-2021. Bayer to Present New Cardiorenal Data for Kerendia across a Broad Range of Patients with Early to Late-Stage Chronic Kidney Disease and Type 2 Diabetes

Bayer will present new renal and cardiovascular data from the comprehensive Kerendia™ (finerenone) clinical trial program at the 58th Annual Meeting of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) 2022. This data will include new post-hoc analyses of FIDELITY, a prespecified pooled analysis of FIDELIO-DKD and FIGARO-DKD, as well as the design of the Phase II CONFIDENCE study, investigating simultaneous initial combination therapy with finerenone and an SGLT2-inhibitor in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and type 2 diabetes (T2D). Geisinger Medical Center Honored by NRC Health for Top Ratings in Patient Loyalty

Geisinger Medical Center was named to the fifth-annual NRC Health Top 100 Consumer Loyalty list — the only loyalty-based hospital rankings recognizing the top U.S. healthcare facilities driving loyalty among their patient populations. The Danville hospital was selected based on results from the NRC Health Market Insights survey, the largest database of healthcare consumer responses in the country. From April 2021 to March 2022, NRC Health surveyed more than 310,000 households in the contiguous U.S. to measure consumer engagement with community healthcare brands. Read more here.
American College of Lifestyle Medicine Commits $24.1 Million to Advance Physician and Other Clinician Training in Food as Medicine to Combat Diet-Related Chronic Disease

The American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM) commitment to donate $24.1 million in in-kind educational coursework in nutrition and food as medicine to physicians and other clinicians nationwide was recently highlighted by the Biden-Harris Administration at the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition and Health. The commitment includes $22 million providing for 5.5 complimentary hours of continuing medical education (CME) credits in nutrition and lifestyle medicine to 100,000 physicians and other medical professionals. Digital Diagnostics Partners with Archwell Health on Early Detection of Diabetic Reinopathy

Digital Diagnostics announced that it is partnering with ArchWell Health to bring IDx-DR, its proprietary autonomous AI diagnostic system, to ArchWell Health centers across the U.S, according to an announcement. IDx-DR is designed to detect diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular edema at the point-of-care. ArchWell Health, based in Nashville, Tenn., is a health care company serving seniors. Digital Health Platform Ranks #1 for Improving Patient Experience in KLAS 2022 Emerging Solutions Top 20 Report

DeliverHealth, a software and services company with a set of connected solutions that bridge the gap between mid-revenue cycle and digital health, announced today that its digital health platform has received high rankings in the 2022 KLAS Emerging Solutions Top 20 Report, including the top ranking in KLAS’s Improve Patient Experience category. CPSI Announces Strategic Partnership with i2i Population Health to Ease Complexity of Quality Program Reporting and Health Improve Patient Outcomes

3M Health Information Systems Division Secures Key Federal Government Clearance for Platform IT and Security

The 3M Health Information Systems (3M HIS) division has achieved fully authorized Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) status for its 3M RevCycle health services platform (RHSP). 3M HIS is the company's first division with a FedRAMP-approved product. With this designation, 3M RHSP is published on the FedRAMP marketplace, allowing federal entities to more easily contract and work with the company. Read full release.
NACDD Goes to Tanzania

National Association of Chronic Disease Directors CEO John W. Robitscher, MPH, today announced that NACDD will participate in the 4th biannual Greater Horn Oncology Symposium (GHOS) in Tanzania. “We are absolutely thrilled by this opportunity to leverage NACDD’s latest breakthroughs in prevention programs, early detection and diagnosis, treatment and palliative care against this unique audience of international, lifesaving physicians and oncology experts in an area of the world stymied by extreme health deficits,” said Robitscher. Adventist Health Portland Launches Virtual ICU

Critical patients and their care teams have additional support thanks to OHSU and Adventist Health Portland’s virtual intensive care unit (vICU) partnership. Bedside critical care doctors, nurses and other staff are backed up by nonstop visual and data connection to a vICU team at OHSU. Each room equipped with vICU is connected to a command center at OHSU, where a team monitors all ICU patients across the OHSU Health system using video for visual monitoring and telemetry for data monitoring. Study Finds Eyenuk Artificial Intelligence Detects Diabetic Retinopathy with Far Greater Sensitivity than Ophthalmologists' Dilated Exams

From the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s 126th annual meeting, Eyenuk, Inc. a global AI digital health company and the leader in real-world applications for AI Eye Screening, announced the publication of strong EyeArt® validation results in Ophthalmology Science, a peer-reviewed journal of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. The study, “Artificial Intelligence Detection of Diabetic Retinopathy: Subgroup Comparison of the EyeArt System with Ophthalmologists’ Dilated Exams,” evaluated general ophthalmologists, retina specialists, and Eyenuk’s EyeArt AI system for detecting diabetic retinopathy (DR), a leading cause of blindness among working-age adults. Case Management Organizations Announce Unified Case Management Definition and Joint Advocacy Task Force

The American Case Management Association (ACMA) and the Commission for Case Manager Certification (CCMC) recently announced a unified definition for case management and the creation of a joint Advocacy Task Force. In an effort to provide clarity to the profession, ACMA and CCMC have aligned to approve a common definition of case management:

Case Management is a dynamic process that assesses, plans, implements, coordinates, monitors, and evaluates to improve outcomes, experiences and value. The practice of case management is professional and collaborative, occurring in a variety of settings where medical care, mental health care and social supports are delivered. Services are facilitated by diverse disciplines in conjunction with the care recipient and their support system. In pursuit of health equity, priorities include identifying needs, ensuring appropriate access to resources/services, addressing social determinants of health and facilitating safe care transitions. Professional case managers help navigate complex systems to achieve mutual goals; advocate for those they serve; and recognize personal dignity, autonomy and the right to self-determination. Medicaid Managed Care: Evolution and Impact of Value-Driven Health Care

Sellers Dorsey, a national health care consulting firm with deep expertise in Medicaid, teamed up with the Association for Community Affiliated Plans (ACAP) and Medicaid Health Plans of America (MHPA) — three organizations involved with nationwide Medicaid initiatives — to collaborate on an analysis of the history, present state, and outcomes of Medicaid managed care. The use of managed care in Medicaid is widespread throughout the USA, as states are increasingly focusing on quality, access, value-based care, and innovation. Jefferson Investigates: COVID Risks, RNA in Cancer, and A New Use for Anti-Nausea Medication

COVID-19 still remains a threat and with new, more transmissible variants, it is critical to understand who is at highest risk of getting infected. New research from Jefferson Health explores this question in a study published in American Journal of Infection Control. The study was conducted between March 2020 and March 2021. NeuroFlow Named a Finalist in VA's $20 Million Mission Daybreak

NeuroFlow is pleased to announce it has been named a finalist in Mission Daybreak, a $20 million U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs grand challenge to reduce Veteran suicides. Mars Petcare Study Shows Safety of Long-term Daily Cannabidiol Use in Healthy Dogs
 
Mars Petcare today announced results from a safety study that demonstrated that a daily oral dose of cannabidiol (CBD) at the studied concentration and duration was well-tolerated by a cohort of clinically healthy adult dogs. The study was run by the Waltham Petcare Science Institute, part of Mars Petcare, and was published in Frontiers in Veterinary Science, adding to a growing body of evidence around the safety of CBD for dogs. The Y Partners with Gatorade to Break Down Barriers in Sports

Research shows that playing sports can have lasting social, emotional and physical benefits, but youth participation is on the decline. A new partnership between YMCA of the USA (Y-USA) and Gatorade seeks to break down barriers young athletes face, including financial challenges, lack of role models, too much pressure and low self-confidence. The $500,000 donation from Gatorade to the Y will provide local youth sports clinics, increased scholarships for youth sports and expanded outreach to make an even greater impact in the communities the Y serves. Read press release.
Merck to Initiate New Phase 3 Clinical Program with Lower Dose of Daily Oral Islatravir in Combination with Doravirine for Treatment of People with HIV-1 Infection
 
Merck announced that the company will initiate a new Phase 3 clinical program with once-daily islatravir for the treatment of people with HIV-1 infection. These new Phase 3 studies will evaluate a once-daily oral combination of doravirine 100 mg and a lower dose of islatravir (DOR/ISL). One study will evaluate DOR/ISL in previously untreated adults with HIV-1 infection and two studies will evaluate DOR/ISL as a switch in antiretroviral therapy (ART) in adults with HIV-1 infection who are virologically suppressed. Certain study participants currently enrolled in once-daily treatment studies with DOR 100 mg/ISL 0.75 mg will have the option of transitioning to a new study with the lower islatravir dose. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has reviewed and agreed with this plan. Read full release.
CareOregon Invests $700,000 for A New OHSU Harm Reduction Nurse to Support Substance Use Treatment and Overdose Prevention in the Region
 
With substance use disorders on the rise and drug overdose deaths in Oregon nearly doubling between 2019-2021, we are seeing an increased need in overdose treatment and prevention. CareOregon has provided OHSU with a $700,000 grant to hire a new harm reduction nurse as well as fund harm reduction supplies for the next two years in an effort to reduce the rising rates of overdoses in the region. RUSH, Franciscan to Partner on Clinical Services for Cancer, Neurosciences

RUSH and Franciscan Alliance, Inc., are partnering to jointly develop and provide clinical services to improve the availability of health care to patients in Northwest Indiana. The partnership includes RUSH (Rush University System for Health) and Franciscan Health hospitals in Crown Point, Dyer, Hammond, Michigan City and Munster. Patients now have streamlined access to subspecialty care offered by RUSH providers, while staying connected and receiving many services in their own communities. The agreement establishes coordinated care between RUSH and Franciscan, with direct collaboration between providers to ensure that patients receive the highest-quality care in the most cost-effective way possible, while ensuring an outstanding experience for them and their families. Penn Medicine, Independence Blue Cross, and Tandigm Health Partner to Expand Value-Based Care

Independence Blue Cross and Penn Medicine recently announced a plan to deepen their longstanding collaborations to transform healthcare in the Philadelphia region. The centerpiece of this expanding relationship is Independence’s sale of a minority equity stake in its subsidiary, Tandigm Health, to Penn Medicine, which will allow more patients to continue seeing their trusted primary care providers close to home while offering new, innovative pathways to Penn Medicine’s specialty care and other services. Together, the organizations will join forces in new ways to improve patient outcomes and drive more cost-efficient care, while also increasing provider satisfaction. Read full announcement.
