Volunteers needed - at home or out in the public.

Some volunteer positions can be done from home. Example:

  • The newsletter needs an editor! It goes out on a quarterly basis and lets you know what is going on in our chapter. To see some of the latest newsletters, click here. This position begins immediately, with the next Newsletter due in January, 2026. Email Connie (conniewg51@gmail.com) or call (703-209-3134) for more information.
  • The by-laws revision committee needs some committee members. This can also be done at home. Contact Connie (conniewg51@gmail.com) for more information

There are ongoing voter registration efforts!

  • We are continuing our efforts to educate voters and register voters. Our League is very proud of our efforts to help register voters. To be a leader in this effort, you must be trained, and the training must be renewed each year on or after July 1. It is good until June 30 of the following year. For information on the training, click here. We welcome those who want to help with registration but are not certified by the state.

Have you ever listened to a podcast? There are many out there, but only a few are what we, the League, would recommend.

Consider the Constitution is a podcast from the Robert H. Smith Center for the Constitution at James Madison's Montpelier. The show provides insight into constitutional issues that directly affect every American. Hosted by Dr. Katie Crawford-Lackey the podcast features interviews with constitutional scholars, policy and subject matter experts, heritage professionals, and legal practitioners.

If you have never listened to a podcast before, this is an excellent way to start. Listen on your phone, or on your laptop or iPad. There is a list of topics to choose - ranging from discussion on the 4th, 5th, and 6th amendments, to slavery, the constitution, and how it led to the civil war, and debunking political myths. Something for everyone! They run from 18 to 25 minutes in length. Click here to listen to Consider the Constitution.

Advocacy - When voter registration is threatened, we need to be strong advocates with strong voices. Our League helps us define our voices.

  • Stop the Takeover of D.C.

Write to Congress:

The League of United States and the LWV of the District of Columbia have spoken out against the federalization of Washington, D.C.

Now it is your turn to write to your Members of U.S. Congress and Senators to stop this! Use this Advocacy Form to tell them to stop this dangerous march to a militarized state.

You are writing as an individual, not representing LWV.

Take action today!

  • Alert

There may be a revision of the USCIS handbook that cuts out all third-party groups from doing voter registration at naturalization ceremonies whether they are on site or offsite. Only election offices will be allowed to do it.

Movement to stop states from voting by mail and using voting machines

US Administration plans to "lead a movement" to get rid of mail-in ballots and voting machines in the country ahead of next year's midterm elections. Part of the plan includes signing an executive order that would bar states from using mail ballots and potentially some voting machines. States' authority to conduct elections is embedded in the Constitution.
