VOW’s Holiday Tree Lighting gets a makeover! | |

The Vision of Wallkill will mark the holiday season with a Holidays in the Hamlet event on Saturday, Dec. 3!
The Traveling Lantern Theater Company will be performing “The Story of Ebenezer Scrooge” in the community room at 2:30 p.m. that day. This family friendly show featuring the tale of Scrooge’s redemption will be offered by the Wallkill Public Library.
From 4-8 p.m., vendors and food trucks will be available on the lawn of the library. Choral groups from the local schools will also be on hand to perform, and of course Santa will be coming to light the Christmas tree and meet with children.
If you are a vendor and would like a space on the lawn, contact VOW. The group is particularly looking for a vendor who sells wreaths, evergreen centerpieces, and/or kissing balls. Those who are musically inclined and would like to perform that day can also contact VOW. Call or text 845-527-6230 for more information.

Feed your feathered friends
On Saturday November 19, at 10 a.m. in the Community Room of the Shawangunk Town Hall, Vision of Wallkill will be having a children’s craft session – making a pinecone feeder for birds. $5 per child. 2 -3 pinecone bird feeders can be made by each child. Adults should plan to stay to help.

Please note that the library will be closing at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23. The library will be closed for Thanksgiving and will reopen normal hours (10 a.m. – 6 p.m.) Friday.

Book Club makes December selection | |

The library’s Adult Fiction Club will meet again Dec. 15 to discuss Christmas in Paris, by Anita Hughes.
Anita Hughes's Christmas in Paris is a moving and heartwarming story about love, trust, and self-discovery. Set during the most magical week of the year and with details of the glorious foods and fashions in the most romantic city in the world, it's sure to take your breath away.

The 2022 holiday season marks the 75th anniversary of the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program! Help us celebrate this significant milestone. The Wallkill Public Library is an official Toys for Tots donation location! Leave new, unwrapped toys in the collection box in front of our fireplace from now through December 14.

Recycle your batteries at the library! | |

When the batteries from your holiday lights, appliances and toys have ceased to work, don't just drop them in the garbage bin, RECYCLE them!
Next time you visit the library, drop off those old, dead batteries cluttering up your junk drawer. The library has a collection box to recycle all types of old batteries, including hearing aid batteries. We will be collecting through Sept. 2023 as a part of the RCLS Libraries' Great Give Back initiative.

Meal inspiration coming right up!
Did you know that you can borrow magazines from the library? Especially at this time of year, our food magazines are particularly popular. We currently subscribe to allrecipes, Cook's Illustrated, Cook's Country, Food Network Magazine, Cuisine at Home, and Taste of Home. Our newest addition is Bon Appétit, just in time to assist you with the most wonderful, delicious, anxiety-producing meal of the year!
Due to the timely nature of the content, magazine loans are a week long, but that should be plenty of time to get inspired for your holiday feast.

Crafting Caboodles
On Tuesday, 11/29, we will be making advent calendars at our Crafting Caboodles program. If your children are unable to attend, be sure to sign-up for “Miss Michelle’s Take-and-Make” version so that they are ready for the December holiday countdown! Please note that the photo is a prototype - we will be making calendars with 24 days!

She's bark!
We are also thrilled to announce that everyone’s favorite holiday elf…I mean canine… Zoe the Therapy Dog will be joining us every last Tuesday of the month for Storytime! She loves being read to and enjoys being pet…she also likes showing us some of her amazing tricks!

Hot Chocolate Tea Party
We had a choco-tastic time at our “Hot Chocolate Tea Party” pop-up program this past Saturday! We read a story in our pajamas with our snuggly stuffies, made hot cocoa ornaments, and finished off the morning enjoying hot chocolate with marshmallows!

Special December pop-up program!
Register now for our next special Saturday pop-up event on December 3 from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM in the Community Room at Town Hall! As the Vision of Wallkill celebrates "Holidays in the Hamlet" with our community, join us as the classic tale The Story of Ebenezer Scrooge, also known as "A Christmas Carol," comes alive before our very eyes, with an entertaining performance by The Traveling Lantern Theatre Company. And don't forget to grab a candy cane on your way out!

STEM fall fun
We've also been having a blast learning at STEM over these past couple of weeks. During Fire Prevention Week, our friends learned about staying below the smoke during a fire...and then they cooperated as a team to put out a "fire" in the library!

Children's Book Week
Next week we will be randomly choosing winners of our Children’s Book Week raffle, “What would the title be of a book about YOU?” Please have your children place their answers in our raffle box in the Children's Room, along with their name, age, and caretaker's contact information, or email Miss Michelle at mgreco@rcls.org.
Four lucky winners will receive a limited-edition Children's Book Week poster (shown here) and one lucky winner will receive a book of their choice! (Up to a $25 value; currently published titles only; depending on availability.)

Masks are optional for the most part, during both visits and programming, however, there may be some programs that require masking. If masks are required for a particular program, it will be indicated at the bottom of the program summary when you register for that event via the online activities calendar. If you’re ever in doubt, feel free to call the circulation desk and ask! And if YOU feel more comfortable wearing a mask to the library, don’t hesitate to do so. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

Our doors are open for library services including browsing for library materials, making copies, sending faxes, and using the public access computers.

Our bookdrop is open for contact-free and after-hours returns of library materials. Be sure to secure DVD and BCD cases with rubber bands.

Curbside delivery of pre-ordered items is available by request. Call the circulation desk at 845-895-3707 to make a pick-up appointment.

Fine-free returns on everything, except museum/park passes.

Inter-library loans are available between all RCLS libraries.
