Greetings!

Happy summer everyone!  Hope you are enjoying the warm weather!

Unfortunately, with this warm weather comes an equally warm home.  But never fear!  I’ve learned some helpful tips to keep your home nice and cool during the summer heat.

1. Routinely replace or clean you’re A/C’s air filter during the cooling season.  Replacing a dirty, clogged filter with a clean one can lower your air conditioner's energy consumption by 5% to 15%.
2. Seal all air conditioner ducts, and insulate ducts that run through unheated basements, crawl spaces, and attics.

3.  Make sure that your windows are secured both inside and out and caulk any open areas in between. Ensure that outdoor heat stays out by securing your windows to keep the cool air in.

4.  Set your ceiling fans to rotate counter clockwise. This way, your fan will create a nice summer breeze by pushing the cool air down.

5.  Switch to CFL bulbs (compact fluorescent bulbs).  Regular, incandescent bulbs can waste about 90 percent of their energy in the heat they emit! Changing them is a win win for you and your energy bills.
Hope this helps! To conclude, here's a little dog wisdom:  "Handle every stressful situation like a dog. If you can't eat it or play with it, just pee on it and walk away'". Take care friends!

Celebrating Memorial Day with Purple Heart Homes. To celebrate Memorial Day, VPC Builder’s attended a remembrance ceremony held at the Boone mall commemorating the army, coast guard, marines, air force and navy.  Purple Heart Homes co-founder and guest speaker, Dale Beatty made an inspiring speech honoring our veterans and offering help through Purple Heart Homes to those who need assistance finding quality of life housing solutions in the area.

Purple Heart Homes partners with local volunteers in the community with  the intent of restoring dignity and 'quality of life' by creating a safe, barrier free living environment for Service Connected Disabled Veterans who currently own a home that no longer meets their physical needs. Renovations are provided at no cost to the Veteran. If you know of a local Veteran in need of assistance, please let us know.
If you would like to donate, nominate a veteran, or volunteer, please email  highcountrychapter@phhusa.org Learn more at phhusa.org.

"I find that the harder I work, the more luck I seem to have." --Thomas Jefferson

Difficult as it may be, a good worth ethic helps make for a more successful life.  Some may call it luck, but hard work will almost always pay off in the long run.  That's why it's important to always remember quotes like these when the work feels like it's getting too hard.  They help remind us that the harder the work is, the more rewarding the outcome can be when the work is finally finished.
