A Message from the ED

Friends of the Council,

As we start the new year, our thoughts are with our neighbors and first responders in Los Angeles County as they battle the multiple fires impacting the area. These incidents, along with the Mountain Fire, serve as stark reminders of the importance of wildfire safety and the need for our communities to prepare and prevent devastating losses. At VRFSC, these events strengthen our resolve and reinvigorate our commitment to providing the resources and services necessary to protect lives and neighborhoods.

Evacuating early and being prepared to leave are critical steps that save lives and ensure access for first responders. Wildfires move quickly, and the time to prepare is not when the fire starts—it’s in the days, weeks, and months leading up to it. I urge you to visit our resource page to learn what actions you can take now. Reach out to us, your local Fire Safe Council, or even a nearby Firewise USA community. The growing threat of wildfires demands that we evolve and adapt as a community to face these challenges together.

In closing, I want to extend my deepest gratitude to the firefighters and first responders who are working tirelessly to assist with evacuations and save lives during these fires.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us. Your local Fire Safe Council is here to help, and we’re just a call away.

Stay safe,

Stephen Watson
