Governor Northam Unveils "Forward Virginia" Reopening Blueprint

On Friday, April 24, Governor Northam shared his plan for reopening businesses and easing restrictions in Virginia.

The first phase will include:

  • Some businesses opening under strict safety restrictions
  • Continued social distancing
  • Continued teleworking
  • Face coverings recommended in public

Virginia Department of Tax Releases Guidance on Waiving Penalities and Interest

The Virginia Department of Taxation has released guidance regarding the extension of the February 2020 sales tax return and paymet due in March (pursuant to Tax Bulletin 20-3) and waiver of interest, and certain income tax payments originally due during the period from April 1, 2020, to June 1, 2020, that may now be submitted to the agency without the accrual of interest as would otherwise be required for late payments.

Virginia Beach Announces 2 Month Meals Tax Holiday

Virginia Beach City Council voted to suspend the city's meals tax from May 1 through June 30, 2020. More info here.
