LEAD NEWS: Federal Update - AHLA Releases Road Map to Recovery

The American Hotel and Lodging Association, VRLTA's partners at the national level, recently released a plan outlining actions that Congress needs to take to help lodging establishments survive the economic impact of the COVID-19 crisis.

Specifically, they request that additional assistance is needed in the following areas:

  • Help hotels retain a rehire employees by extending the Paycheck Protection Program, and expanding the Employee Retention Tax Credit.
  • Protect employees and guests through tax credits for cleaning equipment and personal protective equipment.
  • Keep hotel doors open by providing relief for hotel commercial mortgages and increasing the size and flexibility of PPP loans.
  • Incentivize Americans to travel again when it’s safe with a temporary tavel tax credit and restoring the entertainment business expense deduction.

Local Update - ForwardRVA & VRLTA Join Forces

ForwardRVA is a coalition of the Richmond Region's business, community, and governmental leaders who are working together to create an innovative reopening and planning framework. VRLTA is a ForwardRVA partner. The website, www.forwardrva.com , will offer up-to-date information on Virginia's timing and strategy for getting back to business, reopening resources, and more. The website has good general reopening checklist here.

Also, ForwardRVA is offering a starter PPE kit to small businesses (those with less than 25 employees) - including masks, gloves, hand santizer, signage (including VRLTA's Restaurant Promise poster - see below), and safety information. It's an $80 value, and you can sign up here to get it for free!
Local Update - Prince William County

Yesterday, the Prince William County Board of Supervisors voted 5-3 to send a letter to Governor Northam and request that restaurants in the county be allowed to enter Phase One of the reopening process. The vote was bipartisan, and is a rebuke of Chairwoman Wheeler’s request to Governor Northam to delay reopening. The Governor must now determine how he wants to respond to this request.
Virginia Restaurant Promise - Poster to print!

VRLTA has worked with the Virginia Department of Health, localities, and restaurants to develop the Virginia Restaurant Promise, a set of commitments to employees and customers. We've put together a poster in three sizes that restaurants can print out and post.
