This one day session will be open to teachers, specialists, and administrators responsible for designing programs for students along the P-3 Continuum. Sessions will support educators in creating a learning environment that reflects developmentally, culturally, and linguistically appropriate practices and instruction. Space will be limited at this free event and registration information including the agenda will be available in May.

EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES

Instructional Cycle

This video is designed to support educators in creating quality prekindergarten curriculum, instruction, and assessment that supports young learners of all abilities and language backgrounds, and includes them as active participants in their learning. It is critical that teachers and administrators acknowledge that learning in prekindergarten is playful, interdisciplinary, and connected to the New York State Standards.

WMHT and PBS have curated even more FREE, standards-aligned videos, interactives, lesson plans, and more just for New York teachers on the PBS Learning Media Website.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Q. Is there a required curriculum specific to preschool?

A. There is no specific curriculum that is required. However, the curriculum used must align to the NYS Prekindergarten Learning Standards.

Q. How can we involve families in our program?

A. There are many ways to involve families in your program. The school could ask for volunteers to help in the classroom, invite family members to be mystery readers, or have a day where families can share something that represents their culture and/or traditions.

Q. What does a quality preschool classroom environment look like?

A. Children should be engaged in purposely planned interactive learning experiences that allow them to grow and develop. They should allow them to explore, converse, inquire, build, and create individually and together. Please watch our video, A Look at Quality Prekindergarten Learning Environments, for additional information.
