Dear Licensees,

As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and industry support, the Vehicle Sales Authority (VSA) continues to share quarterly insights into complaint trends and compliance actions.

Please take a moment to review the information below.

FY 2026 | Formal Complaints Increase

The VSA saw a 34% increase in formal complaints in FY 2026. The top five allegations were:

  1. Misrepresentation of Mechanical Condition
  2. Misrepresentation of Credit Financing
  3. Warranty
  4. Misrepresentation of Deposit
  5. Non-Disclosure of Damage

We remind dealers of the practical recommendations outlined in our May 30, 2025 Bulletin, which are intended to help mitigate these key complaints and strengthen compliance practices.

Between January 1 to March 31, 2026, there were two Compliance Undertakings. These undertakings involved:

Engaging in a deceptive act or practice, breach of the Code of Conduct, engaging in a unconscionable act or practice, and failing to act with honesty and integrity.

During this same time period, there were seven decisions issued by the Registrar.

All formal compliance activities are posted on the VSA website within seven days of the decision date. Previous compliance activity reports are also available on the VSA website and may be a useful tool for dealers to evaluate their current business practices.

The Compensation Fund Board approved one claim and denied five claims in this period.

Transaction Levy Now In Effect: Dealer Support and Materials Reminder

With the April 1 implementation of the Transaction Levy, the Vehicle Sales Authority of BC (VSA) would like to remind dealers that any questions regarding the levy can be directed to the VSA Licensing Department:

Printed Transaction Levy rack cards should have been delivered to dealerships by April 1. These point‑of‑sale materials are intended to support conversations with consumers by explaining the purpose of the levy and the role of the VSA.

Dealers who require additional copies, including newly available translated versions, may request further materials using the form below. Digital versions of all materials also remain available on the Industry Transaction Levy webpage for download at any time.

A reminder that the VSA office does not accept walk-ins. If you need in-person service, please contact us to make an appointment. We encourage you to reach out to us online or by email and phone.
