EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

UPDATE

VSPA members,

I wanted to take a few minutes to update everyone about the success and improvements we have made during the month of September. We have had two very successful emergency relief fund golf tournaments both in Northern Virginia and Southwest Virginia thanks to our current President Tim Confroy and Past President Roy Kyle who organized these events. The Lieutenant E. J. Kelly Memorial Golf Tournament was a great success and added much needed funds to our Emergency Relief Fund to go toward helping the needs of members and non-members going through an unforeseen financial hardship. The Southwest Virginia Emergency Relief tournament was organized to assist Lt. Blake Eades of the Abingdon Police Department that is going through a bone marrow transplant in Winston Salem N.C. and the proceeds will help offset the cost to rent a place for him and his wife who is a Marion Police Officer.

On September 26th Lt. David Ostwinkle began as legal counsel with the Virginia State Police Association. He will be representing our members on legal matters such as criminal, civil and administrative. David will also be counsel for the Association on internal issue that arise. Leaving his post at the Virginia State Police was difficult but we are very fortunate to have his skill set representing our members. If you need to reach out to David for any issue or just to congratulate him in his new role as General Counsel his email is david@vspa.org or by phone at (804) 320-6272.

Finally, as we close out September with a solemn start by remembering all those that lost their lives on 9-11 and we now close out September with one of the worst storms on record making land fall in Florida and turning to make land fall in South Carolina. Virginia will see remnants from this storm with possible widespread flooding. We would ask that you keep all those that put themselves in harm's way to save lives and those that have lost everything in your prayers.

As I close and think of the memories of September and how many spoke of the horrible attacks of 9-11 the phrase "WE WILL NEVER FORGET" was always mentioned. I realize as people, we tend to focus on all the bad that happens and never remember the greatness of the human heart after we face an attack like 9-11 or after a natural disaster such as this hurricane we are facing. As we are so often reminded of these tragic events that occur, let us try to focus on the charity of the hearts of those that are willing to give all in order to save others.

Philippians 4 verse 8"Finally Brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy-meditate on these things."--NKJV
