On Saturday July 24, 2021, the annual VSPA Family Picnic was held at American Legion Post 16 in Lynchburg. We had 204 in attendance for a free day of food, fun, and fellowship, with a delicious meal provided by Country Kitchen.
Members who brought their children were happy to see the variety of inflatables and games for the kids to enjoy. There were snow cones, watermelon, and snacks throughout the day, and a lake with opportunities for swimming and fishing. We are grateful that Ms. Shelley Belcher shared her artistic talents at the children's face painting station, which was a huge hit.
We had multiple raffles at this year's event; raffling off 2 guns, a pistol, a rifle, and 2 VSP patch holsters, as well a 50/50 raffle. All proceeds went towards the emergency relief fund.
There was an opportunity to purchase a 10-game bingo card, with proceeds also benefitting the emergency relief fund. Those who participated won prizes including gift cards for a variety of national chains. A combined total was collected from the raffles and the bingo game of $1,318.
The door prizes awarded this year had categories for adults and children. Several of our members were excited by their winnings.
For the 1st time, we held a car show during the event which gave some of our members an opportunity to show off their rides, and others the pleasure of seeing them. The winners are as follows:
- Michael Bradley: 1979 VW Bug Convertible
- Scott Lane: 2019 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray
- Tony Mayhew: 1934 Chevrolet Two Door Sedan
- Travis Barr: 1974 Ford Bronco
- Roy Kyle: 1990 Chevrolet Corvette convertible
- Robert "Bob" Keen: 2016 Harley Davison Motorcycle CVO
I would personally like to thank the staff of the VSPA for another fun-filled event for our members. They truly serve us with excellence. We are looking forward to next year's event and hope to see each of you there.
