Not a One-Hit Wonder
There are musicians, soloists, and groups, that have a hit song go all the way to #1 on the charts that then just disappear. There are anthology albums dedicated to “one-hit wonders.” Some one-hit wonders that you may remember include "Play That Funky Music" by Wild Cherry, "Who Let the Dogs Out" by Baha Men or "Brandy" by Looking Glass. Now, it is an accomplishment to have a hit, but to follow through with more hits establishes a place in music history.
Sunday was an amazing day at Vineville. We had a great crowd with 450 present. We haven’t seen that many in the building since Easter. There were 78 children at Vineville from nursery to fifth grade. On Sunday night 3C was full of youth excited to be together for fellowship, fun, and worship. On Sunday the excitement and energy was palpable. The staff had been working hard towards that day. The prayer and effort combined with your presence made it a great day.
The thing yet to be seen is will it be a “one-hit wonder?” Will we validate and back it up with those same numbers and that same energy this week? I hope we will. I know I will be in my place! Week 2 in the 18 Summers Series will focus on loving scripture.
Like I said Sunday, this is a great time to invite somebody to visit Vineville. Who can you invite to join you in worship on Sunday? We have more chairs. Don’t worry; there will be a place for everyone. Let’s gather to offer our praise and worship to God and learn more about how we can live into our primary responsibility as parents and a church – to prepare our children for a lifelong relationship with God.

Sanctuary Renovation Update
We are making great progress on the sanctuary renovations. Window restoration and tuckpointing is going well. Places where water was getting into the walls are being eliminated. Inside, they are finishing up the painting. They will begin refinishing the floors this week, and shutters are to be hung next week. We are ahead of schedule and under budget, which is cause for celebration. On Sunday it was my pleasure to announce that because of your generosity and faithfulness, we have raised the million dollars needed to pay for the project. With the gifts we have in hand and the pledges that are being paid, we will move back in owing nothing! That is an amazing story of faithfulness. This was an unexpected, mid-year expense of tremendous magnitude. To many church families, a million dollars on top of the budget just wouldn’t be possible, but the generous and faithful people of Vineville made it happen in four months! Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Praying for our Students
On Sunday we distributed “popcorn” prayer lists. All the children of the church from birth to 18 were divided into random lists of 4 or 5 students. As part of our focus on children and youth, we asked everyone to take a list and commit to praying for these students daily. If you picked up a list, don’t forget to pray. If you didn’t get one Sunday, we will have more this Sunday.
Peace,
