On Monday, as I stared down the long line of cars filled with students about to head into a new school year, I thought to myself, “Weren’t we all just here for the last day of school?” Summer, as summers seem more and more to do, sped by me, and I didn’t quite want to believe the alarm clock that was coaxing me awake on Monday morning. However, the return and start of old and new routines as well as the afternoon smiles brought an excitement with them.
Part of that excitement is thinking about the restart of all of our children’s ministry opportunities for the fall! VBS, farm camp, and theatre camp were all highlights of great fun and learning this summer, but I am so excited for the return of our weekly get-togethers where we all get to grow together in our walks with Jesus.
Promotion Sunday kicks off our fall calendar on August 14th at the 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. services. Our Sunday school teachers and nursery staff will be in place to welcome our children as we celebrate them moving from the nursery to the preschool hall to 3W to 6th grade and youth. Every child is invited to bring their backpacks with them to church that day for a “Blessing of the Backpacks” where we will pray for the students, their teachers, and their schools as they embark on the new school year.
Children’s choirs return on Wednesday, August 17th. The kids will gather in the CLC at 5:00 p.m. for pizza and games and rehearsal will begin at 5:30 p.m. for Hosanna (preschool) choir and 6:15 p.m. for Oasis (elementary) choir. When not singing, each choir will participate in craft and game activities.
Another thing that I am very excited about is our Children’s Ministry Open House on Wednesday, August 17th at 5:00 p.m. in the dining room. While the kids are eating dinner, all parents and any other adults who are interested are invited to come hear all about what’s going on in children’s ministry. I can’t wait to share with you about Sunday school curriculum, choir, special groups like Club 345, and our goals for ministering to your children. You will hear of ways that you can get involved, and we will also hold a Safe Sanctuary training that night. It’s an evening not to miss!! As a church, we commit to helping our children to know and grow with Jesus. Our Open House night will be a time where you can find a way to honor that commitment, and I promise, you will be so glad and rewarded that you came!

It is hard to believe, but another summer is coming to an end. Schools are about to start. Some of our teachers, school administrators, and students are already back at work. Just a few more days of summer. Wouldn’t it be great to have an endless summer? There is a movie by that title, but life seldom follows the storylines from the silver screen. For the next few weeks, we are going to focus on children, youth, and the summers we have with them before they become adults and head off to college, join the military, or enter the workforce. All of us in the church have a part to play. Whenever we baptize a child, we make a promise to help raise them to profess their own faith. In addition to the part we play at church, parents and grandparents have daily, or at least more regular opportunities, to participate in the growth and development of our children. Since we don’t have an endless summer, join us in worship as we explore how to make the most of 18 summers.

CHURCH RECEPTIONIST NEEDED
|
|
As many of you know, our Church Receptionist, Ashlee Haynie has resigned to be able to spend more time with her sweet little girl, Lumi. Ashlee has been a treasured part of our staff and will be greatly missed.
Since Ashlee is leaving, the church is now searching for a new Church Receptionist. This full-time position, with benefits, would include, but is not limited to, answering the phone and directing calls, greeting and directing those who come to the church, entering data into the Realm database, updating Realm as needed, and ordering supplies, managing the prayer list, etc. Computer and people skills are a must.
If you are interested or would like more information, please contact Cass at [email protected] or 478-745-3331.
